Last Monday I received my'WPATH letter' or 'letter of recommendation and support' from my AASECT therapist, saying I need and am ready for HRT. I had alreadyfound a trans positive physician (the clinic specializes in Trans and LGBTQ+ patients), have all the insurance in place, my medical records from other doctors have been sent to them, they have my most recent labs and THursday I met the Doctor. My therapist supports starting hormones before coming out and that is the plan so far anyway. At age 70 this is the last thing I had anticipated for this stage of my life, but if not now, when? I don't have a spare 10 years to spend going in circles about it and so I went to see the Doctor.
My visit to the Doctor's office was so quick, so easy, so simple and totally painless and affirming. I checked in at 9:30, was roomed by 9:40. The Nurse did the usual 'is the history you spent an hour on line putting into out system correct' thing, took vitals and weighed me and about 10 minutes later the NP (Nurse Practitioner) came in and gave me a physical once over. I gave her the letter from my Therapist (which covered all the is this psychologically appropriate and needed, etc) and we chatted for a few minutes about my goals and health history and shortly thereafter she told me I would have labs drawn in their office and that if nothing came back wonky she would be prescribing a starting dose of Estradiol Valerate injections. She said she would monitor my response and if all was well would bump the dose in a week or two and continue that until I reached a point I was not tolerating the meds or I reached the ideal dose. She asked how I felt about having breast growth and I said yes, please and an extra helping. She said thats good because the injections often brought quick results in the area and that i may be hard to hide before long! I was on my way by 10:30 and on my way to the liquor store to buy a bottle of champagne! It was a wonderful experience and looking back I wonder why i was concerned! If anyone in the Houston area is looking for a wonderful pace to get your HRT going, drop me a DM and I will share! I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOO HAPPY!!!!!! Finally going to really be one of the girls!
So here is my question... when do I get to own the title Trans Woman? When the estradiol gets injected the first time or now because in my mind that's who i am? Megan ;D

Honey, you get to own you since the day you were born. There is no real step you have to take to own yourself, okay? You always were "one of the girls" as you put it. This is just a step on your journey. Admittedly a huge one, and one you rightly feel elated over. But... Megan, you were always you, sweetie. There are no barriers to this. No milestone you have to reach to be able to feel "real". You just have to be true to yourself. That's enough. :)

In answer to your question, you were born transgender, so when you decide to claim that title is really up to you. Like you, I waited to come out until I had been on hormones for a few months. I agree that it is never too late to start living your life as YOU.

Welcome Megan, you get to own the title the moment you give yourself permission to own it. One someone accepts they are trans they finish one journey and begin on another which is taken in the mind, experienced through our bodies and expressed through our words and our behaviour.
