Title: You know, here's the thing. RE: Restrooms
Post by: Sarah on January 21, 2008, 01:40:35 AM
Y'all know me well enough now to know that I am not without opinions.
Heck, I can be downright rowdy sometimes.

But one thing I always try to do is call it like I see it.

I don't like to flirt around the issue.

And here's the thing: I've said this before and I will say it again here:

We just don't have the right not to be offended by people.
If we did; it would apply to the Rightwingers as well, and we could not be Trans.(or whatever) as that offends a lot of people.

We just have to realize that we do have to put up with some disomfort now and again.

If we didn't, then like I said we'd all be offending some person and breaking a law somewhere.
So that's said.

You have an absolute right to be offended by anything, at anytime, anyplace.  You do not have the right to have your preferences written into law.

I'm a little confused at your post. You have RE:Restrooms, does that mean we should be offended in the restroom? I take some offense personally and I won't stand for it. I will not skirt the issue, I will stand up for the rights of being a person. I will not tolerate a person who will spout out bigotry to me. I have just as much right to be anywhere I'm suppose to be. If I'm a woman and I'm in the womans restroom, then, that is where I'm suppose to be. It doesn't matter what equipment I have, cause that is my personal space, you don't know it.

This was in regard to the thread titled "enough of this biggotry"
That was a restroom thread.
The debate was over which of our communtiy should be able to use teh restrroms of thier choice and who should not.

The consensus overwhelmingly was that everybody should have the right to but if they don't pass well they should be prepared to recieve some flak.

There were two dissenters.

Their main argument was for CD's that don't pass well or don't ID as the gender of that restroom.

Couteragruements pointd out that there is no way to tell the diff, and at the end of the day all is unenforcable, and making laws regarding is a realy bad idea for the ramifications as they would affect others.

It came down to feeling uncomfortable.

And that is why I posted this thread. We don't have the right (or the ability) not to feel uncomfortable about someone as if we did, it would apply to everyone, and not just ourselves. Even those who feel uncomfortable with us.
So therefor I wouldsay we do need and have to put up with some discomfort about some people on a regular basis.

We can't just erase the things that make us feel uncomfortable.

I would suggest reading the thread. It was an interestin dialog. Several Mods posted and so did at least one Admin. Many men posted on the subject.
It was a very interesting read.

I agree, it is a bit odd.
