Title: Drinking and HRT
Post by: Audrey on January 26, 2008, 06:10:37 PM
I used to be an alcoholic and had to drink all the time to get through life and survive my depressive state.  Once starting HRT I had 0 urge to drink and I mean zero.  Now however some of my girlfriends like to get together and party it up.  I usually have a drink maybe two, but after that I just don't feel so hot, and don't get anywhere close to the buzz I used to get.  I usually just get really hungry.  Has this occured to anyone else.  It is nice that I am not an alchy anymore but it would be fun to go out and get wild sometimes.

For me, I generaly dont feel like drinking... well atleast as frequently...

What I noticed was that I have nearly no tolorance anymore... I used to drink 20 to 30 to get a buzz and now it only takes 3 or 4 and Im looking for someone to take my keys and drive cuz I cant or call a cab...  And even if I dont drink enough to get drunk... one or two, I still feel totaly BLEH the next day....  oh, and my hangovers are 1000X worse...    Generaly I dont drink that much or often anymore, I dont feel the need to have a drink...  But on those bad days when I get stupid and pound too many back... I regret it for half a week...

I never really became an alcoholic or anything (well I'm still 2 years away from being able to buy it so maybe that's why :P ), but I still drink on occasion for like a party or something.  I used to do drugs to really survive my depressive state, since I couldn't get alcohol haha.  But yeah, I stopped the drugs a while ago, and now I just drink like I said every once in a while.

Men support alcohol better than women.
Has to do with muscle mass and metabolism.
Maybe 2 drinks is just too  much for you new you!

I drank a lot in my teens, close to a case a day when I was 15. I cut back a lot but still drank pretty regularly until I began thinking of transition. I hardly drink at all now, just 1-2 drinks a month.
I suppose it could be all mental. I just don't have any desire to drink any more.

I don't drink much either. I'm now a light weight, one beer and I'm already starting to buzz. My limit is 3 drinks a night, because if I go over I get uber sick. So, for me, drunk to uber sick is a drink away.

I'm a big flirt when I'm drunk, and pretty easy going... but that's about it.

OMG funny.  That is great.

So I ended up going out tonite and didn't get too wild.  It was kind of, no actually really, LAME.  I went out with some my coworkers who happen to like cowboy bars.   :P  So Here I am listening to some guy brag about his cattle roping skills and what a great farmer he is, and comparing the kind of ropes he uses with another guy.  Now mind you these aren't old farmer types their my age (20's).  So I suffered through it for awhile, and then couldn't take it anymore and had to leave.  I mean come on COWS and FARMING how incredibly lame can you get.  I think its getting to be about time to move out of Montana.    :icon_archery: :icon_drunk: :icon_pistoles:

Haha oh gosh Audrey, sounds like a most marvelous night! :P  I'd have to agree it's time to move!! Haha.  I met this family from Montana on a cruise I went on during the summer, they were really nice and not redneckish at all.  And hey!  There cows and farming is other guys cars and muscles haha.  Just find another subculture!

Well montanans as a general rule are very nice people don't get me wrong.  I just can't identify with the whole cowboy thing.  My friend that I was out with is pretty much a cowgirl and she insisted on going to "her" bars.  I went along for awhile but couldn't handle it long.  Not to mention that this guy who was by our table kept trying to talk to me as an excuse to look down my shirt.

I can deal with the car talk cause I have a background in custom autobody (not bolt on stuff either, like chop tops etc.)  real custom bodywork.  But never been enthralled much by cows sorry.  Well except to eat.

I have been good at getting druck latley - not good.

Some people are rightly worried when I drink - and it can get out of hand. Hopfully the HRT will settled me down.

I don't drink either.  Alcohol is not a good thing for anyone.  It makes you gain weight, it destroys your liver, your brain, your kidneys, your skin becomes rough and what is worse, it interferes with medication (whatever this medication may be) so you never get the full benefits of a prescribed drug.

Yes, my tolerance for alcohol has decreased after hormones.  A little goes a long way.  But, I try to be social and I don't believe alcohol is the sin to end all sins.  If you are prone to drink compulsively, then you have to watch it, that could cause big problems in your life.

Yeah. Not to mention they make you SICKER in the morning. I have yet to do HRT, and nothing really gives me hangovers, except too much sugary alc.

I'd imagine those girly drinks would RUIN me if I had them on HRT. I therefore, unless I intend to be DRUNK OUT OF MY MIND (still drink like Malibu for that or if I'm desperate Jager) go with beer. Not Miller or any crap like that. I have wheat allergies, so that makes me SICK. So Its not only tastier beer, it doesn't make me sick and follows my philosophy on drinking. This is to only buy GOOD alcohol with the little money you have once and a while versus Dubre all the time, and destroying everything. Its a moderation thing really, and a good excuse for me.

Suburbia does have its horror stories, seriously.

Bond has his martinis 'shaken not stirred' because he had them with vodka, not gin.  You never shake the gin because it might bruise the gin.  In cocktail land, its called a Bradford.  Interesting to note, that the "shaken not stirred" from Bond is a reverse of the books, where he (of course) in classic fashion, wanted them "stirred not shaken."  Though in the books Bond drinks pretty much everything.

I just borrowed that from Bond 'cause that's the way I liked them.  Harry Denton's old bar in the financial district SOMA made them great!  I loved them with tiny ice crystals floating on top!

I think drink is like music, the right sort, in the right amount, at the right time and with the right people can bring a cynic like me at the closest to transcendence I'm going to get. Drink should be used to enhance an event, not become an event. I expect the same would be true with drugs, but I've never really got on with drugs.

Indeed. Also, I don't think I've ever heard of anyone who snorts coke just for the smell of it. Wine, now...

True that. Thats usually why I'm pissed at my typical late-teenage friends. They were all straight edge, and I wasn't cause I thought that movement was DUMB, and then they all bounced into the opposite category. Now the event is drinking itself, and I get massively bored out of my mind after a couple of shots, and then proceed to leave and DO SOMETHING.

And yes I think it goes the same way for drug use. I say this because I consider alcohol a potent drug.

The problem with coke is what it does to your nose. The only thing with coke in it I would ever bother trying would be the old skool coca-cola, and thats pretty much it. But thats pretty impossible cause I seriously doubt the ingredients are available. But like I said, just cause its legal does not make it a non-drug.
