Montana Resists Real ID Act, 15 States Follow

By Patrick Duganz

MI) During the 2007 Montana Legislative session, the consistently divided political parties united on one front unanimously opposing the federal Real ID Act creating a single unified identification card for all United States citizens. Montana led the charge against the act, passing a state law that defiantly prohibits compliance with the federal measure.

Short term victory with no long term win.  As soon as the Feds say that you need a 'federally approved ID' to a) get on a an airplane, or b) id yourself for federal services, its all over.  States have to respect the actions of other states, but the feds do not.

Yeah, the DEA raids places in the bay area from time to time also.  Still, hasn't seemed to really roll it back, pretty much most of the west Ore, Wash, Calif, Alaska, Arz all have opted out of the war on drugs as far as MaryJane is concerned.

But, back on topic, check this out

The Feds, namely Homeland Security, is already doing this for border crossings, which will be followed by airport and airline regulations, etc. Soon we'll need a "real" ID or a passport in our own country. Followed by new surveillence laws and authority to stop and ask for id anywhere any time. Me thinks our government doesn't trust its own citizens anymore. Never mind terrorists, it's the citizens. Shades of...?

Absolutely! They were just waiting for something to happen that would make it easy for them to impose more restrictions on us... 9/11 gave them just the excuse they needed to enact the patriot act.

I don't know, Tekla, whether that ring thing is just really cool or really scary.

I kind of think both, like all rings of power, it could be used for good or bad I guess, but I'd bet on the bad winning out in the end.
