Alec Mapa (gay dude from Desperate Housewives) hosts this groundbreaking transgendered elimination dating show.

The transgender bachelorette, Calpernia Addams, is being wooed by eight handsome men. With the advice of her trans best friend Andrea combined with multiple challenges and dates, Calpernia will shave down her group of suitors until she finds her prince charming.

Uhmmmm...

I don't know what to say about this one... good thing... bad thing... mind. boggled. cannot... function... ...

I kinda think I get what Calpernia and Andrea are trying to accomplish here - visibility. Don't know if this is the right avenue for it though. Reality TV is nothing if not exploitative.

Yeah... by being on LOGO, it is kind of preaching to the choir... shame they couldn't get it on a mainstream channel, it would reach more people that are trans-ignorant.

I imagine they couldn't get the show on a mainstream network.

I am sure it will be tastefully done, but something about this just sticks in my craw, something about what Julia Serano refers to as 'deceptive' portrayals. And yes, I know that no one on that show is trying to 'fool' anyone and that the show helps both Andrea and Callie's agendas as well as their purses.

Still, the Transamerican Dating Game? I dunno, I thought the original and its later syndicated reincarnation were crap. So, prolly just me.

Maybe, but "Something About Miriam" ran on a mainstream channel in the UK and in other countries (including a Fox channel, though admittedly obscure, in the US).  I bet they could have gotten it on Bravo, which most people with cable actually get (I'm in the Atlanta area, and they don't offer LOGO with whatever cable company I've got).
