Title: Unexpectedly Discharged . . .
Post by: gina_taylor on March 16, 2006, 04:19:06 PM
About a month ago I  had made an appointment to see my psychiatrist on Wed. March 7at 1:30 pm. I had to change it to 8:30 am because the previous time cut into my work time.

So I arrived a  few minutes early and waited in the parking lot. 8:30 came and went. I phoned the office and to my surprise the machine told me that their office hours were from 9 till 4 pm. So I waited until 9. I then contacted the number again and this time I got a secratary and she told me that my appointment was for the previous day and that the location that I was at is only open on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and that my psychiatrist has discharged me and will not be looking after me anymore. My psychiatrist is the only one that I can get my perscriptions from.

The secretary wouldn't tell me why, but she told me that I will be receiving a letter of explanation. When I had wanted to have my notes from my psychatrist given to my GP and my neuropschycologist a few months ago, he charged me $25.00 each to send them copies. Right now I'm going to be contacting the board of Medicine and reporting him. >:(

That's not good Gina.  Hopefully the letter will shed some light as to why your therapist took the action they did.  It is the same here in Ontario as far as the cost for document transfers go.  I was charged $25 to have my medical file sent from my old doctor to my new one.  They wouldn't even let me take them by hand.

Anyway keep us posted.

Thanks for your comments Stephanie. The letter arrived yesterday and in it it stated that I had missed a few appointments, which I don't understand, because I've been present for all of my appointments and he had mentioned something about me not following theraputic recomendations, when all he's supposed to do is monitor my medication doseage. Everything else I've had to do myself, like finding a neuropsychologist and getting the psyche test done to see where I'm at.

Sounds like it's time to find another psychiatrist or therapist.

Gina,

I feel terrible for you.  However, I think Melissa has said it: it's time to find a new therapist.

Thanks Melissa and Chaunte for your kind words of advise. I'm right now working on a letter to the association and then I'll find a new therapist. At least I can go back to my neuropsychologist for the medication, but I'd have to drive a distance.  :( My psychitrist was local. I'm seieng me GP next week to discuss my psychitrist's uncalled for actions.
