Asher remembered it almost fondly, that day several years ago he deliberately destroyed a piece of his clothing in order to make his point.
"I was pretty little," he said, smiling at his past antics. "I took a pair of scissors. My mom was distracted on the phone, bragging about how beautiful I was. And I just went chop-chop" – he paused to demonstrate with hand motions – "and I chopped up my dress."
Oh my god I wish people had listened to me when I was that young. I wouldn't have had to have double-incision chest surgery. I wouldn't have gone through years of agony. I consistently expressed, as long as I remember, my gender variance until my peers went through puberty. Then I just kept it quiet and tried to hide it.
I count myself lucky that my relatives (who are extremely gendered in the roles) allowed me to be a boy and to do the boy things, but that would've been heaven.
I like what the one parent said, "if it turns out to be wrong, we can transition back". She's right. I don't think it's a great idea giving kids hormones that might have irreversible effects; I do think they should be pretty grown up when they make that decision, but hormone blockers would prevent a lot of agony. And all of us who've been through it know what agony it is going through the wrong puberty. I started mine at 17 - later than most kids. That fact wasn't traumatic. Going through it was awful.

A wonderful article. If only we had known what we know now.

I found interesting the term the kid used MTM, meaning he never identified has female.
I use a similiar one GTW (Girl To Woman) since I never feel like a male (not even in a complete physical way) but like any other girls, im learning to be a woman and growing up into one.
I simply cant relate to the MTF term, but I can with the transsexual woman one, since I was born with male genitals and they tried to raise me has a boy and told me to live has one, but those are things that didnt fix in my self. So far I can oly count living has a male (at elast trying) 5 years of my life.
Excellent article. :)
QuoteGuinan told the crowd. "Want to screw a little kid up? Teach them that who they are is because of their genitals."
Ain't that the truth.
The great debate emotions, feelings, desires, mental orientation to life, female spirit vs the male genitilia and y chromosome. Which makes us who we are. Either one or both It would be nice to live in a world that would not interfer with our life choices, and let us live with the consequences of our decisions. This is my idea of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. :eusa_wall: :eusa_wall: :eusa_wall:
