Title: I really HATE ice
Post by: Terra on February 06, 2008, 03:49:19 AM
How is it that I keep losing my balance on this ice? I'm the girl who grew up always walking on curb edges and doing anything that remotely had to do with balance for fun. Yet this town somehow manages to turn snow into ice sheets in no time at all. Worse though is that my boots can't seem to find a grip, though they didn't have any trouble in Chicago. Yet here I keep falling, and nobady helps anyone who falls, they just walk around them. Unless you happen to be one of the cheerleaders, then the guys trip over themselves to help you up. ><

The Ice is everywhere in this town, and i'm told that it won't go away until june or something. Guess i'll invest in some padded pants or something. Seems i'll be falling on my butt more often then i'd like. ><

Chicago wasn't this bad debbie. It gets just warm enough here in Wyoming to partially melt the ice, but the wind blows the water around and it refreezes. So the sidewalks become one big icesheet.

I don't think I can look at ice cubes the same way ever again ><

Angel I totally feel your pain.  When I was going to school down there a friend was dropping me off at my apt. when I got out of the car, slipped on the ice, and landed in a huge ice cold puddle that had formed on the side of the road.  GOD how embarassing, right in front of my friends who couldn't stop laughing.  Good thing it was right outside my apt. so I could change.

Then another time I was riding my bike and my wheel kind of got stuck along a ridge in the sidewalk.  I crashed and burned right as a car was pulling out of a parking lot behind me.  I am sure they got a good laugh out of that one.  Of course both times no even cared if I was OK.  Laramie is not a very nice town to be in.  It seems to me to have an ominous feel to it, like bad karma.

I do miss the drive through liquor stores though.  ;D

Wait, you went to school here? :o Lol, I thought I was the only one crazy enough to go to school here.  ;)

I do agree with the ominous feeling comment. My black friends and I agree, minority's aren't really welcome here. :(

As for the ice, I now need to buy a new ipod, landed on mine trying to cross the street to get back to the dorms. :-\

I was deep in the heart of enemy territory.  Guess where? This was before I was out if not I probably would have died.  You guessed it I am a former TECHER.  I graduated in '03 after learning custom autobody.

Hey Angel, you be careful when you are out walking on the ice.  You could break your neck!

Snow is fine.  Ice... isn't bad as long as it is not on the road or walkway.

I had to deal with icy surfaces while an arm was immobilized in a sling for 8 weeks due to surgery.  Since I couldn't drive and I usually took the bus, it meant some careful walking.  I tended to walk through snow first, and then brave the pavement.

I did find that YakTrax worked well.  With practice I was even able to put them on one handed.
