Title: Red Without Blue - New Trans themed Documentary
Post by: joannatsf on February 10, 2008, 11:52:36 AM
I saw this film over the weekend and found it deeply moving.  It's the story of identical twin brothers.  Both of them initially identify as gay but one moves on to transition as she discovers the woman inside.  It's a documentery and the "actors" are the real people involved.  Claire, the twin that transitions, Marc the gay artist and his lover David and the twins parents are the core of the cast.  I found the story insghtful and moving.  What could I have in common with a 23 year old in Missoula, Montana?  Plenty it seems!

Not rated it can likely be found in a video store that specializes in foreign and art house films.  It's also on Netflix so add it to your cue!  Definate thumbs up! :icon_dance:

I'll add my recommendation too Clarie. The focus on the family (mother and father) and their reaction to both children and how that evolves was what really touched me.

I was able to purchase it from the producers. Google Red Without Blue and I bet you'll be able to find their web site.

Support independent films and purchase it if you can. It will be a good addition to your library.

I saw this film on the Sundance channel last summer, they did a one time only premiere.  I think it was also playing the LGBT festivals.

It was an interesting story, it was worth checking out.  I hate to give out any hints as to the ending, but there is a chance she might get SRS at the end  :o  I know, shocking for a trans documentary to end this way.

I met Clair earlier today.  She's a wonderful woman.  I may get the chance to work with her in the future.

I've raved about this film in my blog and to people I know. Very touching. They could have explored the relationships a bit further, but for a documentary, very good. The soundtrack is also very good, if you are into that kind of thing. One of my favorite movies of last year :)

Red Without Blue is easily my all time favorite TG video. One of my favorite quotes from the film is from Clair talking about TG discrimination:

"Gender is the one very specific thing that we can hold onto. Everything changes in life except [gender]. And to see someone challenge something so basic, it's like blasphemy."

I cannot get the embedded video to show up in the post. You can view the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzO11m6WBPQ)

This movie was apart of "Reel Out" the GLBT yearly film festival held here in Kingston.  I would highly recommend this movie.  While it is lacking in some of the detail and the why and wherefores, it none-the-less is lets others know some of the pain and suffering we endure.
