Title: Problem with patch staying in place
Post by: April221 on February 24, 2008, 09:35:43 PM
I've just started using the Climara 100 patch, and am having a terrible time with it staying flat and in place. I can't really use the lower abdomen as a site, so I've been using my butt below the waistband on my panties. With normal activities, including sitting (and a little sliding) on the sofa, by the end of the day, the patch has shifted with prominent ripples or bulges present. Since the patch must remain flush and in contact with the skin in order to be effective, a solution has to be found, or I'm going to have to switch to sublingual pills. I'm currently experimenting with taping the edges. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can resolve this problem? Any other placement spots? This patch is supposed to last 7 days. I usually wear cotton bikini panties. I'm wondering if I'd be better off with nylon.

when I was on the patch I had good luck using it on my hips sitting or standing the skin doesnt move too much if you get the right spot.  Unfortunately I developed an allergy to the adhesive so I had to switch to pills.

I had the same problem with Climara.  They are just not worth the trouble.

If you still have to use them (up) for a bit, when they get unmanageable you can try carefully removing them, unfolding/unkinking them, letting them dry for a bit (just long enough to lose the slimy quality and regain the tackyness,) then re-apply to the same patch they were on.  They seem to be a real problem on day 3, but on day 6 they behave.

Because of all that hassle, I switched to Vivelle, the U.S. version of Estradot.  Now I buy 'Vivelle' through a Canadian pharmacy and get British Estradots.

First shave the area that you apply it. Then remove it to take baths. Higher up the back has the least folding but you might need some help to put it there. Use just a small amount of heat to get it tacky to reapply.

The only place that works for me consistantly is on the side of the abdomen,  45 degrees ish and about even with the belly button.  On the butt the elastic  in panties or pants would grab them, no matter where I placed them.  It is a big patch.  I've had pretty good luk with them here I wear them now

I have no trouble with the Vivelle-dot 0.1 patches.

I've used Climara 100 for years and I'm very happy with it.  I found that putting it on my thigh just below the botton edge of my panties to be the best place.  It loosens occaisionaly so I'll take it off, clean the area where it was, then reapply in the same way I did the first time.  If it comes off in the shower just let the patch and your skin dry then again reapply.  It doesn't lose potency in water.  I alternate thighs each week to give the skin a break.
