Title: The Blessed Mess in Maryland Continues-URGENT-PLEASE read this update 3/2/08
Post by: ChefAnnagirl on March 02, 2008, 11:58:30 PM
Hello everyone,

I am posting the latest update from the teachthefacts.org/Vigilance blog tonight. Please see this and other links at the bottom of this page.

Please listen to the audio interview link with Teresa Rickman of the Citizens for Responsible Government.
It is vicious, distorted, and blatantly continues to foster the stereotypical misperceptions that we struggle with every day of our lives in open public society. She is laughing almost the entire way through the interview.

This interview with Matt Barber and Martha Kleder has been posted on that site - The CWA (Concerned Women for America), and is now unboubtedly being spread to opponents of Transgender and LGBQ non-discrimination/equal rights everyplace.

Having worked personally with Dana Beyer now for quite awhile, and having stood by her side at petition gathering sites, as well as her standing right at mine, i must strongly attest that this interview is full of utter lies, falsehood, and complete distortions as well as obvious bigotry based in complete ignorance on the part of the interviewer.

My own initial and compelling testimony, now public record, as given directly to our County Council, last year in October, focused nearly 100% on workplace discrimination issues and nothing else.

Dr. Dana Beyer is an amazing and brilliant woman who has worked for years to help level the playing field in any way possible. She has helped me directly and immensely on many occasions, and personally asked me herself to act as a Volunteer Coordinator for the petition striking task force which is now still in full swing at this moment.

She could not take this task because of the potential ethics questions it would raise, as she is still currently employed by County Councilmember Duchy Trachtenberg, who sponsored this anti-discrimination bill in the first place, in large part as a direct result of Dana's relentlessly diplomatic, intelligent, and highly effective outreach to help others have a better understanding of people like ourselves and the amazingly difficult discriminatory challenges and issues that most of us have to have had to face in almost every aspect of our lives in this country and in this culture, almost every single day of our existence.

We still have many MANY days of difficult, exacting, and very draining work still ahead of us. These organizations have used every falsehood and distortion possible to raise fear in the minds of the general public as regards any form of Transgender issues, and they must be stopped and called out on it.

Debate and dialogue must be opened in every possible corner of the country on this issue to bring the lies, bigotry, and mass of distortions and falsehoods being used against us, to the forefront of public awareness and exposure.

It may also appear that many potentially illegal and completely unethical tactics were used in their petition drive, and that these organizations obviously went to a great deal of time, effort, and expense, to foster and generate tremendous shock and fear in the general populace, in order to make their message effective, and thereby get the necessary number of signatures to potentially force this law to referendum, and back off of the books.

This would, once again, leave all people like ourselves without any local, state, or federal recourse, in my home county, in the instance of any sort of discrimination issues as regards workplace, housing, services, and/or other public accomodations. This COULD EASILY set a national precedent and give conservative opponents a deadly foothold which can then be used in every other part of the country if they succeed in this effort.

I have posted several updated links below, as well as the Task Force Schedule for this week, should anyone be willing or able to help in this effort directly.

Thank you.

Most Sincerely,

Maryanne A. Arnow
