Hugh Reilly's comment piece (Education & Learning, 5 March) and the revelation he has been a teacher for 30 years show precisely why there is a problem in Scotland's schools.
His thinly veiled homophobia, desperate need to clarify that he is straight and clear discomfort at entering a room full of – shock, horror – gay people perhaps explains why so many gay young people feel unable to seek help at school from the very teachers who are meant to have their best interests at heart.
