Title: Looking For A New Job . . .
Post by: gina_taylor on April 30, 2006, 09:49:58 AM
I've been going to a gender friendly nightclub in Fort Myers, Florida since December. A few times, I'll arrive there an hour early, so I'll travel a few miles down the road and I'll go shopping at the local shopping mall. I have absolutely no problem with walking through and nobody reads me.  :)  I was corresponding with a friend who has been in transition for a year and a half , and she told me that she had been a president of a small retail store making 50k a year. She gave all that up to do what she felt was needed. I started to think afterwards that that is the determination that I need. Then I thought that Fort Myers is a very liberal place and Port Charlotte (where I live) is very conservative  so I decided that I'm going to start looking for work out there, and when I find something, I'm going to hand in my resignation at my current job. No point in burning any bridges.  ;D

Good luck Gina.  Just don't hand in your resignation before you get an offer.  A promise of an offer is not the same thing.  Things can still go wrong at that point.

Thanks Melissa for your kind words of advice. I'll wait until they've told me that I have the job or I'll wait until I've started and then I'll give my resignation. A good friend was telling me that maybe I should go and apply at Hooter's!

How's your new job going?

New job is going good.  I still have a ways before I can come out though.  I have a feeling it shouldn't be a big problem, but perhaps I'm being an optimist.  My goal has been to make myself as indispensable as possible and to do my absolute best for the first 90 days.

Why only the first 90 days  ???

In one of your posts is sounded like you are working on this side of the river now.  If you are, there are lots of coffee places if you would like to meet for coffee after work some evening.

Yes, I'm on that side now and I'd love to meet for coffee.  Well, I will still try hard after the first 90 days, but I'm trying to be on my best behavior.  I suppose it would look pretty bad if I tried less after transitioning, but I have a feeling I won't need to try so hard to be just as productive.

Excuse me for putting in my two cents worth, but I think the reason that Melissa is going to be trying her hardest in the first 90 days is because that's a probationary time. If her employer really likes the work that she's doing and sees her as a valuable employee, then that'll mean so much more after her 90 days. Unfortunately, anything can happen within that first 90 days. I've been there plenty of times. That's why I'm going to be looking hard for just the right job that I know that I can do an excellent job at!  :)

And Melissa, there is nothing wrong with being an optimist. ;)
