1) Do "normal" guys shave their legs/body? I'm staring at my legs, and if some of that hair can grow an entire inch so far, wouldn't it just keep going and going...?
2) I've been shaving my face for a while, and even if there's no hair it looks like there is! The skin's darkened :(. Anyone know how to fix and prevent this?
"Normal" guys don't shave their body. Its all they can do to get off the bar stool and shave the face once a week.
Body hair only gets so long. Shave what you're uncomfortable with don't worry about the rest.
For the face, the only thing I could think of is to let it grow out a bit then wax it. You'll probably want to double check on that one though. It's a painful process (my mother had me wax my face, truly traumatic experience).
A lot of normal guys shave their arms and legs.
Swimmers because it reduces friction and bikers do it because it allows scrapes to heal faster.
well usaully if you tell people that you shave your body as a GUY- then they will look at you funny unless you come up with one of those athletic excuses that lets swimmers get away...
Well your face is exerting a "SHADOW"- I believe. Not sure....
You will look out of place in a group of serious bikers if you have leg hair and leg hair is uncomfortable under bicycle shorts and tights.
I get a lot of ingrown hairs because riding tends to move long hairs back and forth. But since I started shaving, it's not a problem.
I know a lot of weight lifters over the years and they all shave their chest. I've had people ask about my legs and I tell them I bike and I like the way it looks.
I really think that in 10-20 years you will see more men (non TS) shaving (and using makeup) as I think people
realize how ugly body hair is even on men.

Sounds like you have shaving shadow - your skin is a bit opaque and you can see all the roots of the hairs showing through. There are all sorts of hair growth reducing creams but I don't think they will help you much. Even hormone therapy won't get rid of it (though it can reduce the growth). So you are left with ripping them out or going for some sort of permanent hair removal to 'fix' it.
I've been getting IPL (intense pulsed light) hair removal therapy. It is expensive, hurts like a mother but the results have been pretty good so far - though it won't remove all the hair, it gets most of it. For another permanent solution electrolysis or laser hair removal is an option (though also expensive, time consuming often painful). Before you dive into these you need to be sure as once it is gone you won't get it back.
I believe men try to do everything opposite with what women do to try to assure their manly status.
Of course, I know there are exceptions to this...
Hi Amanda
I think the only way that you can get rid of the 5:00pm shadow it to get rid of the hairs and that is done through electrolysis, laser or Vaniqa which can be obtained by prescription. it's a cream in tubes, 2 one ounce tubes for $135.00 One tube is good for a month. As already mentioned the estrogen will thin out facial hairs and body hairs but will not eliminate it completely. Epilating the body, arms, and legs, although the hair growth on the legs is so greatly reduced that I just continued to shaving them. Epilater might be kind of an "ouch!" situation please don't try it on your face, it doesn't work. Doing the rest of your body It will hurt a bit for a while till you get use to it, but you get good results. I only epilate once every two weeks and the hairs that are still growing are more like peach fuzz then hairs.

About the shadow thing... I'm 100% sure it's not hair that's darkening it. The skin itself is darkened in the area I shave. Maybe my skin is just being over sensitive again?
I came up with 2 possibilities in a google search.
1. The roots are so thick that when you shave they can still be seen underneath the skin, and the density could be what's making your skin appear darker.
QuoteIf your natural body hair is dark, any new hair growth can still be seen from underneath the skin where it eventually pushes out of. Seen collectively from afar (several inches to a foot away), these can temporarily make the surrounding skin seem darker than it actually is.
2. I also came across a thread where women were discussing having darker armpits. This was apparently caused by a lack in certain vitamins and the best thing to do is to see your dermatologist to find out what you may need to do to improve skin health.

Osiris, do you have any suggestions regarding the proportions for the above concoction?
I'm assuming it's equal portions.

"Hee, hee, hee, hee." Tekla hon, you do have a sense of humor. ;D
I just know a lot of 'normal' guys.
And I've been shaving my legs for decades, and wear shorts pretty much year round (Ah, Cali) and no one ever says anything to me.

I just came back from the doctor, just to hear that "it's totally normal"... just what I didn't want to hear. Looks like I'll have to try some of that lemon juice stuff :/.
