While disagreeing with the implementation of the federal REAL ID Act of 2005, a recent report released by the National Center for Transgender Equality hails its influence on the final rules to ensure transgender citizens' security and ability to obtain legal identification under the new regulations.

The REAL ID Act mandates a de facto national ID card for American citizens by requiring each state to meet the same set of guidelines in order for a state ID card to be recognized as legal identification for "official purposes." Such applications, determined by the Department of Homeland Security, include commercial air travel and entry into federal facilities.

It looks like Karen had some influence in the hearings!  Good job Karen!

I'm still going through the hassle and expense to get my birth certificate.  I'll be over 50 by then (shoot I am right now).  But I don't trust 'em.
