I'm probably going to get killed by the Will Smith fans (of which I am one) but here goes. I thought this was, at best, an ok movie and not even close to bringing out Smith's talent. He comments that all traces of humanity are gone from the creatures but then they set a trap exactly like the one he used? Plus, to me, the CGI effects were rather poor. When he was being chased/assaulted/attacked by the "night people", I didn't see scary bad guys, I saw badly done cartoon characters. If I want to watch this movie again, it will be the 1971 version starring Charlton Heston in "The Omega Man" which I thought much better. I haven't seen the 1964 Vincent Price version "The Last Man on Earth" so I can't comment on that one.

I haven't actually seen this one yet. But, my son both saw the movie and read the short story. It was his opinion that the story was vastly superior to the movie.
This movie was way to scary for me. I can't take scary movies ;.;

Usually, scary alone isn't a problem for me. What I can't stand is gore.

Remember the end of the movie? His position in the water fountain? Significant I thought. Plus Anthony Zerbe and the "Night People" in The Omega Man were frightening but, at the same time, you felt a little sad for them.

The written story is fabulous!
"The last man on Earth" comes closest to capturing the book.
"The Omega Man" is good too, but almost a different story.
"I am Legend" with Will Smith just kind of stunk.
I don't blame him, he was interesting to watch some of the time, but I prefer the raw ugliness of the original story. In that one, the guy lives in a regular house and can't sleep because the sick people are banging on his house screaming for him to come out. Also, they are just sick people, not crazy monsters.
I read the book when I was a kid. I've seen Chuck Heston and Vincent Price versions which are also quite good for the genre and periods in which they were made. I'm also a fan of both Heston and Price. I have not seen the new one.... and I probably won't until it comes to HBO.
I hate it when they take a good story and change it to include special effects that are done poorly. I'm definitely not going to go see this film!

The first ending was sad, but they remade it because a "test" audience didn't like it. The dvd has both endings on it.

Since life itself always ends in death, I prefer stories with happy endings. Unless, of course, such an ending is forced or requires a
deus ex machina to achieve the happy ending.
I mean have the guy discover the formula by all means, have her wandering, but don't have a magic euphoric type of shangri-la at the end.
I prefer the real ending. He finds a cure and then gets killed by the people he's trying to help.
No child involved.
about happy endings. I prefer real endings. some good. some bad. very few happy.
i cant wait till the movie comes out on blue ray even tho i wish it was hd dvd instead but oh well :laugh:
