To those of you planning on/ have been through an operation, have you been told to put on weight, go on special diets before you can have the surgery?
If so I'm absolutely dreading this. :( I have never been able to put on weight, nor lose weight no matter what I did.
I had unmanaged celiac when I had my hysto, they told me to gain weight and I failed. I did work out all the time which helped a bit but I was still underweight. Top was the same way. I am having bottom surgery next and I have already been warned, I have to lose about 10lbs around my waist, get into to top physical shape and gain about 15lb of muscle. I haven't been working out in a while so I am a little out of shape.
I always am on a special diet, about 35 protein, 25-30 fat and 35-40 carb. I work on calorie restriction. When I am working out I eat a higher fat diet then at other times. I consume about 3-5 times the vitamins I need because my body doesn't absorb nutrients well. I consume about 1500cal for my BMR and up to 3000cal additional depending on the workouts. When my needs are higher I try to eat nuts and seeds throughout the day, I try to get about 70% of my calories from the trailmix. Toss some dried fruit in and I have what I need to graze throughout the day, then I add my regular meals and life is good.
