Question:
Would you goto An Annual susans.org Picnic if there was one?
Option 1: Not Sure (but likely I wouldn't)
Option 2: No (no way Jose)
Option 3: Not Sure (but likely I would)
Option 4: Not Sure (but likely I wouldn't)
I think it would be awesome to have an annual Susans.org
IRL (in real life) Picnic!
I'd love to know how many might also be intrested.
Hopefully with enough people Intrested Susan might even give the Idea her blessings.
If theres great intrest then we could debate the specifics like:
- 1.) Where? ...We could actually have two picnics simultainiously one in USA one in UK
- 3.) Should we Charge a small registration fee that would Pay for: Food, Drink, Entertainment.
- 4.) Whom would be willing to help setup, cleanup etc....
- 5.) What steps could be taken to make it more safe. i.e A park with very visable open areas lots of ramadas, a security guard for the day.
- 6.) What Kind of Food and Entertainment.
- 7.) Games and or Activities
This is an Excelent oppratunity to let us meet freinds we've known for years all over again.
Being in a diffrent city Means theres no reason anyone should feel insecure about being themselves and being in the open public.
An excelent excuse for some of us to come ouit of the closet / stealth
.

I think that the most difficult aspect of that would be where and how many? Susan's has staff and posters all over the earth. And travel may not be an easy thing to do.
Central Location? Equator, North or South Pole?
But I could see regional groups getting together if there were a desire.

It's happened before, though I think it was in The Northwest somewhere?
I vote for the Philadelphia area this time ;)
I'd be interested if it was within driving distance, as I owe a LOT of people here a BIG hug of appreciation and thanks!
Although... gasp... people would SEE me! Eeek! I think I'm more afraid of meeting TSs than I am of even The Public, lol...
~Kate~
If you give me plenty of time to get there (say 30 hours) I will try and make it. It would be fun poping into the states meeting a whole bunch of you. There is so many people to meet it is best if you are all in the one place.
And in Philli, give me a few years and we could turn it into a SRS party >:D.

It's a fair fear. TS people seem to be much more attuned to 'flaws' than do cissexual people. Also more inclined to mention them. Often in invidious comparisons to themselves.
Although not all and you may be nicely surprised as well. Not all trans women have that 'comparison factor' factored into their psyches. Ineffectual 'male' conditioning?
So it goes.

Any english peeps are more then welcome to come round mine and then hit the town...I like meeting new people.
Search for Susans fest. things like this work best if a location is picked and everyone is responsible for thier own travel, expenses, food, lodging.

Only if they are nice doggies, but no cats. I hate cats.

Oh be careful dear-heart ... I might just take you up on that offer ... muahahahahahahaha!!!
~Simone.
I know a few places in SF that would be awesome, my favorite being the old 1880s coach house in Stern Grove, no security guard needed. Easy to set up catering/food/beverage service at, next to a stage, where we could hear music from all the people hear who say their musical. The stage itself is mind-blowing.

Yeah, it happened in Portland, OR. I was the main person who coordinated it and found the restaurants/hotels since I was more familiar with the area, although Marco and Pam were very helpful too. We ended up having about 6 people attend.
I think whomever decides to host it should do the majority of the coordinating since they will be familiar with the area. ;)
Regarding costs, what we did before is that everyone pretty much paid for their own expenses and we just got together and hung out most of the time. We tried to make the costs as minimal as possible by researching hotels and choosing venues that weren't too expensive. If there was another get-together and I had enough notice, and people that I knew were going, more than likely I'd be able to come.
The Philadelphia area sounds fine with me.
I might go if the picnic is close enough and I get over hang ups on meeting new people.
Anna
It comes down to where, when and finances. I would love to meet everyone.

I'd attend one in the Northeast (Boston MA, Portland ME)
And although it's very far away, I might just have to pop over to Pica's and scare the Lady in her cape >:D

I suggest Saturday the 29th of June as a definite UK date.
How about one in the midwestern U.S., maybe Indianapolis? ;)

That would be cool! I'd still be in the country! Yay!
~Simone.
The 29th of June is a Sunday.
Perhaps, since the membership is so scattered around the world, a number of regional meetings could be held on the same day and time. Then, if each regional group has a computer with a web cam, we could all hook up in that manner. Perhaps Susan can set something up on her server, perhaps another site would be better to host the cam session.
The logistics would be complex, but we have members with the smarts to get it done, methinks.
I know if there's a meet within an 8 hour drive of my house, I'd move heaven and earth to get there.
hugs & smiles

I guess as long as I don't have to meet Ell, it'd be okay for me.

I'm not much of a traveler. I'd need to know where and when before making a decision.
in 25 posts we've gone from a picnic to regional meetings. Today the pot-luck, tomorrow the world.

i'd honestly love to meet
so many people from Susan's. but i'd hate to be the one organizing such a thing. if such a task were up to me, i'd just pick some little vacation spot to converge (say, for instance, the London Bridge in Arizona), pick a week, and say "converge." if a lot of people show up, cool. if only a few show up, cool.

Well, yes!!! Why don't we ask them to supply the paper plates, cups, and napkins?
Okay....
Saturday, 28th June 5PM at Arsenal Station (on the piccadilly line) for a meal cooked at Pica Towers (by own fair hands) and then a night on the town if wished....Can have room for a few to sleep over, more if sleeping bags are brought.
Sorry it's london centric.

Except that it's hardly fair that you do all the work. Especially if all of Susan's suddenly decided to turn up at your doorstep. I suggest everybody brings one dish to whatever venue, along with what they think they might reasonably drink on the day/evening. (thanks for volunteering the towers!!!) That way, the amount of food matches the number of people too, and the costs are spread as far as possible. Of course, some people may not be able to bring pre-prepared food owing to distance, but if you provided the cooking facilities, people could focus on bringing easily and quickly prepared foods. In my experience, the best parties are the ones held in the kitchen anyway. ;)

For any group in the SF bay area, I would also be willing to have a sailing outing on the bay for up to 5 people. Ha gee that goes for the Bay Area Susans people anytime. Anyone for a sail. Oh BTW. I'll not be sailing from oh May 24- to about August or a few weeks later. I'm only slightly bummed about that ;-).
