"Exhausted after a 'Karagattam' (a folk art) performance at a temple festival in nearby Pattukottai, about 80m km from Thanjavur, Ramya (35), a transsexual, and five of her friends were fast asleep in their thatched house at Valluvar Nagar in Keezha Alangam, Thanjavur, on Monday night. At around 2.30 a.m., they felt the searing heat and woke up in panic to find the roof on fire."
