The loss of any of our family is a hurtful blow.

But Kitten dances with the angels and wonders just why we are sad.

Love and Light

It's really sad to see members pass.  I remember her well and we chatted often.  While she could be controversial at times she had a wonderful heart and I enjoyed, and looked forward to our electronic exchanges.  My condolences to her family and friends she will definitely be missed.

Steph

P.S.  Should anyone have information that I could use about Kitten for our Wiki please contact me.  Please look at our tribute page to Leigh for ideas of what I'm looking for.  Her page can be found here:

I think it's important that we remember our friends and family who are no longer with us.

I am sorry that I did not hear from my friend when/where the funeral for Kitten is/was as I wanted to send some flowers. Here is a new item that was written about her ( see

Quote
It is with deep regret I must report on the sad passing of Sydney transgender activist Eleanor Lister. After a brave fight with a throat cancer, Eleanor passed away last Monday April 14, surrounded by loving friends and family at the RPA Hospital. Her tireless work within the transgender community will be greatly missed. Eleanor was a vocal and well-respected member of The Greens political party whose achievements included the LGBTI Committee and The Ladies Committee.

Eleanor was also one of the only women who continued to put on events in Sydney every year such as the Transgender Day of Rememberance. Last year I had the privilege to work together with her in putting on the TDOR event in Sydney when no others would step up to the plate. Even through illness Eleanor stood tall, speaking out and attending every event she could physically muster.

Eleanor was a very important member of SAGE (Sex and Gender Education) and a long term supporter of Sydney's Gender Centre, offering many transgendered people accommodation in her own home and an ear and shoulder for the people who needed it. She also represented transgender people at the NSW Anti-Discrimination Board. The amount of GLBT events that Eleanor was involved in was vast and her work seemed never ending. She was known to be outspoken, controversial but most of all compassionate with enough empathy to fill oceans.

Transgender activist from SAGE Dr Tracy O'Keefe said of Eleanor, "She hadn't been well for quite a while but she was a trouper. She was a good sort. I take my hat off to her, she had a very clear sense of justice. She put herself out there not only for GLBT people but was very keen on environmental issues in her work with The Greens."

Not only was Eleanor all of these amazing things, but even in her spare time at home she kept giving by maintaining the www.tgfluff.net website with forums, chat rooms that spanned worldwide. As you can expect, her loss will be felt all over Australia.

With the passing of Melbourne's TG activist Zoe Belle earlier this year there is now an even bigger void to be filled for transgender people in regards to being heard within our community.

Affectionately known as "Kitten" by her friends for her love of cats, Eleanor will always be remember for putting others first. Her proactive life even during times of illness is to be commended. The question now beckons, in a time where transgender people are mostly still regarded as freaks who deserve little rights ,who will be the next bunch of young transgender people to step up to the plate in both Zoe and Eleanor's absence?

Rest In Peace Eleanor Lister.

I almost cried when I saw her picture again

I am sure she is now at rest.
