Joy is also my favorite. Has been for 50 years. The only time I didn't wear it was when I couldn't afford it. Once in a while I switch off to opium when I am in the mood for something a little (very) spicy.

Hmmm...I have a few favorites, and I wear them depending on my mood.

Herve Leger
Paloma Picasso
Prada "Infusion D'Iris"
Burberry "The Beat"

I love perfume by the way, I really do.

Oy, I'm extremely sensitive, bordering on allergic, to perfumes and fragrances.

My newest favorite is made by a little boutique.  It is called Diamond Girl.  It is heavenly.

Two.  Two in every crowd :(

Some is worse than others, but being too close to it makes my eyes very red and watery.  If it gets on my skin the area puffs up.  I can't even use fragranced soap or laundry detergent.  I made the mistake just once in college of not paying attention to what detergent I was buying.  I get all itchy just thinking about it.

Can you beat the fragrance of high mountain air, first thing in the morning, with the faint hint
of campfire smoke?

Or maybe the delightful fragrance of your sweaty lover lying close to you?

The aroma of the crystal clear waters of a pristine beach in the Caribbean?

The smell of fresh powder and pine on the first run of the day on a deserted slope?

The leather interior of a Porsche on a hot day? Or the intoxicating smell from a leather jacket on the
person you love?

I love perfumes... but memorable and favorite fragrance's are always natural smells for me :) And
I can't wait to experience all of those again while on HRT :)

I have almost no experience with perfume.  I got a sample of Victoria's Secret Heavenly and liked it enough to buy a bottle.
I haven't found anything else I like better (at least not yet).  I look once in a while, but there's just so many kinds!  It's completely overwhelming.  How do you pick just one?  ??? One, or even several, out of hundreds?  It's worse than the scented candle store.  After a while, you can't even tell what you smell anymore.

BTW, I also like the VS lipsticks.  I found a nice dark color that looks good on me.

Yeah I always liked the smell of high grade, light machine oil, fresh sawdust and fresh cut grass (as long as I didn't have to do the mowing).  Still, I'm not about to dab some chain lube behind my ear and go off to the opera.  "Oh how enchanting you smell.  10-W30 or 5-W40 dear?"  Nor do I think that going in smelling like a pile of wood is going to cut it either.

I can come close to the grass however in Elizabeth Arden's Bluegrass, and I like her Red Door a lot too.  The more teen ager in me like Jean Nate, Cotton Candy and sugar/vanillia floral scents, the street walker in me loves Nina Ricci's  L'air du Temps, the more plain side of me like Charlie Blue.

And what's with perfumes not being natural - the best ones are all natural essences, very expensive stuff.

Of course I am temperamental.  I am not ecstatic 24/7, but let me explain:

Herve Leger: I wear it when I feel competitive, if you smell that perfume on me, you'd better watch out, for Tink is coming"  ;D

Paloma Picasso: For those endless passionate nights!  >:D

Prada Infusion D'Iris: I wear it when I feel cute and cuddly  ;D

Burberry The Beat: I wear it when the days are cold and rather rainy.

Thanks for the tip, Natasha. It was worth checking out. However, the listings for Joy were mostly for toilette water or old, opened bottles of perfume from 'my aunt's house.' I will keep an eye on it, though. I hate how many listings say 'perfume' in the listing heading and then when I read the fine print I find 'edt' or 'eau de toilette'.

Thanks for this thread. I think I found a few new fragrances to try.

Well if you get a good chart of the notes (as each particular scent is called) and look for perfumes you like, then kind of look around it and find others in a similar vein.

I felt carrying a porshe in my purse kinda got tiresome after the first minute.
The smell of wet earth after rain, tried it, but man did it mess up my purse

Smell of fire, carried some burned piece of wood in my purse (quite a purse)

I personally am an Armani guy for personal care and some fashion items.  I purchase the whole Code line from lotion to body(shower) gel.   Only 2 local stores carry it, so I tend to buy it in bulk because they sell out a bit.  I had to travel about 75 miles once just to get more body wash.

I don't remember what I bought my girlfriend and since I am half the world away and I can't go look.  Ugh, I feel so lame right now because I can't think of the designer either...

That was one way.  Luckly I was passing through, but I stopped at every retail store until I found it.  Really added a lot of travel time, but I am pretty insistant on getting what I want and will not settle for something else.  I could of hugged the lady behind the counter by the time I got to that store that had it.  Apperently they just got it in the night before.  I will never forget that trip either because I was trying to get to my mothers house for a christmas meal (a few days before christmas) and I left before sunlight and still barely made it in time for the meal.

Chanel Coco Mademoiselle (seems to last the longest and smells great on me, but also subtle and not over powering) I have one bottle
Chanel Chance (it's sexy, bold, and nice for going out to a club) I wish I had a small bottle of this
Givenchy ange ou demon (I love it, doesn't last as long it seems, but longer than cheaper stuff -- very nice) I really wish I had a bottle

Those are my fav perfumes at the moment... it kind of helps to work at a drug store so I can try stuff out. Sadly, our drug store no longer carries Chanel or Givenchy (I believe the chain does, just not our actual store, since it's small and a lot of the cosmetics/perfumes don't sell as well). Sadly, 'cause it's a smaller store as much as I'd love to work on cosmetics, they are never looking for people. Although, I cover breaks there, know most of the product pretty well know, and can run most of the department stuff. Through testers I've found different brands that I like and seem to work for me. I'm pretty good at helping people figure out their skin care and make up needs -- not perfect, but I've learned a lot and getting decent.

QuoteSorry to tell you this Amanda but that sounds like something a guy would say.

I've lived my entire life running things through my "quicky gender checker" to make sure that
what I was about to say was going to come out a male. I refuse to do that anymore. I'm going to
be Amanda and if some things come out as male I guess I'll have to live with it. I thought about
that very thing before I posted that message.

I know several months ago I would have gone off on a tangent... "am I really TS?" but
I'm so far past that and comfortable with myself... on this minute, of this day.... that I can
sit here and agree 100% that the entire list does sound like something a guy would say. I lived as
a male for a long time and sentiments like that are not going to go away overnight or maybe ever. But
what I can guarantee is going to go away is hiding my true self and I think that is about 95% female.

Look... I know this topic was about perfume but I have a really strong sense of smell, I use
to complain about how bad guys smelled way before HRT. It's disgusting sometimes. But I
also love all the things I listed and love the smell of my SO without any artificial fragrance and
that is what I was trying to relate. And I LOVE perfumes... but sadly I'm not to the point where
I can wear it much yet.

Thanks Sara, I really don't mind either when people point out guy things I might be doing... this
is to some extent a learning process. :) I'm glad we have a GG around to keep us honest :)

I dislike this idea. People don't have to be ultra girly to transition and in fact I am probably more masculine now that I have started moving towards being physically female than I was in all my years as an actual male. Weird but true. Shrug. I love it though! :)

On second thought maybe 'masculine' isn't quite the right word but I guess it desires my situation well enough.

My "signature" is Poem by Lancome ....

Its infallible; warm, sexy, musky, feminine .... always gets me noticed !

Just yesterday I was in our local "posh" mall and was collared by a young woman who was part of a "stall" set up to sell overpriced hair straightening irons .... she was a stylist and rapidly got to work on my hair to demonstrate the product .... within just a few minutes she remarked "love the perfume you're wearing - its Poem, isn't it ?!!".

Had a girl stop me on the street to ask what my perfume was ....

As for guys, well !!!

We had a dozen Malaysians spend a month with us as part of a skill transfer scheme.  I only ever met them at the coffee machine / kitchenette / canteen area.  Come their final days two of them came seperately to ask me "Laura, what is that perfume you wear, and where can I buy it ?" .... guess with present for wife or girlfriend in mind !

The gender psych who gave my second referral, the moment I walked into his consulting room needed to know what my perfume was, and wrote it down !

I could go on and on .... left the dregs of a bottle at my parents and my Mum (a "flowery" elderly Este Lauder Beautiful fan .... not her style at all) rapidly finished it off !

Remember the name .... Poem .... remember the ads of five years ago with gorgeous Juliette Binoche, and give it a try if you want to attract attention without being brash !

Otherwise my Summer scent is Flower (by Kenzo), light and understated.

And as my old self and thru transition I went from unisex "CK One", to unisex but far more feminine "CK Be" .... a fresh fragrance I still love ....

Laura x

Not really. Women are very sensitive to pheromones.

I agree with your comment, Nero, about woman liking pheromones. Actually, I think all people react to pheromones more or less. But sweat is something else. I prefer pheromones without the excess sweat. The body puts pheromones out all the time. When sweat starts smelling it is the bacteria in it or rather the bacteria poop. And it smells like it.

Oh god no... the bacteria.. BO ... yuck!  is that what you thought?... I was not talking about that smell at all.. LOL... a poor
choice of words on my parts I guess... I meant that fresh smell. LOL... NOT BO. Sweat is not the work... maybe it's pheromones.

But I did my my own research on the subject and I have a very girlie girl at home that I often
live vicariously though and learn from. I offhandedly ask her last night "Do you like the way I smell?"... we
were getting ready to go out to dinner and I was putting on deodorant. She said "Yea... I like that one" thinking
I was talking about the deodorant. I said "No I mean just me?" She said "Oh yea... I've always liked your smell, I think
all women like the way their man (yea that hurt) smells". "How about when I'm all sweaty?" I asked. She
said "Oh yea.... I love that smell after you workout... as long as you don't have BO". At this point I'm thinking I'm golden and
she adds "But I like a lot of smells.... oh god babies... I love the smell of babies, and my car on a hot day (leather interior).
"Thanks honey, I'm glad you like my smell". I chuckle. Research done. :)

So obviously she is whacked because she chose me... but at least one GG out there likes the smell of her lover :)

Thanks for your other comments Sara, I know what your intentions were and you did not hurt my feelings at all :) Please
feel free to tell me stuff like that anytime :)

You really need to test one that suits your body chemical. Don't ever let sales people sweet talk you into impulsive buying. I recommend that you spray some samples on your pulse, let the fragrant stay for 4-6 hours, then ask for honest opinion to see if it suits you.  After all, perfume are for others to smell, right?

I like "Realm" for women. It is supposed to contain female pheromones.

Tabu, Channel No. 5. and White Diamonds.

On days off, Unforgettable.  Just a clean scent.

It changes with my mood. :D

My sweetie gave me a bottle of Poême (http://www.lancome-usa.com/fragrance/poeme.aspx) by Lancôme, and it immediately became my favorite for everyday wear. It fits me perfectly. I love it. Poême makes me feel enveloped in beauty all day long. While I still love Boucheron for evening wear, Poême is more suited to daytime.

It does fit you perfectly.  :icon_love:

I hardly wear perfume, but when I do, it's usually Jardins de Bagatelle by Guerlain.

Not into perfumes really, but I love body sprays. Absolute favorite is Watermelon. Also love Cotton Candy.
