so girls... i wanna hear how tall are you and what size shoes you wear,
and does height pose a problem for you when it comes to passing?
cuz these are the things that can't be changed much (if at all) by
hormones or surgery
i am 184cm (which is 6' 0.5'') and wear size 44EU or 12US
I'm not really full time or anything that close to it, but I'm 6'1'' and wear like a size 8.5 to 9.5 in guys. It's sorta just a small little thing you have to get over you know? If ya can't change it, might as well accept it :)
I'm not really tall (174cm), so that's not a problem, but I do have giant hands and feet. -.-
Hands and feet usually correspond to height. Tall girls usually have bigger hands and feet.
I'm 6'2". Women generally don't notice. Men notice, especially as I get closer. But whether they read me not, I don't know.
~Kate~
I'm 5'10" but I'm very broad in the shoulders. I wear a size 11 wide shoe (US standards), I have to pick and choose the shoes as I have feet that look like blocks. My hands are large, size 15 ring finger. I think I pass, well anyway I get doors open for me and I'm called maam all the time. No one bats an eye in the ladies room or when I go to the gym to work out. So, go figure.
Sheila
Height: 5'6"
Wt 150lbs
Shoes: 8
Hands: small for us/size L ladies glove
I am 5'6", hands have short fingers, but are alittle thick. Feet are small, but wide.
Height 6'6", shoe size EU44.
My height was always more of an issue to me than anyone else. I never really tried to pass , I just sopped pretending to be a man and allowed my true nature to show through. People just seem to accept me as a really tall woman which is what I am I guess.
Self acceptance seems to be key to getting others to accept.
Ann
I'm just under 6' (5.11 1/2, can't remember the metric) and a 12 in shoes, will take a wide if it's available.
Height is an instant attention-grabber, often people will look at you just because you're there. The key is not to lose one's cool under scrutiny, be nice and act as if you don't give a hoot about what they think. People will just see you as another tall girl.

-snip-
Yup, that's me too. Except with a little bit wider feet still. I've seriously considered surgery on my feet to bind them together. Apparently it exists but it's really expensive, fairly unsuccessful and kinda pointless.
My hand unfortunately are gigantically huge. It comes from my mother, who has hands bigger than mine and she's only 5'5".
I'm down to 8.5-9 female, in shoes (was 9.5 in male pre-transition).
I'm just about 6 foot tall, size 6-8 US (8-10 UK) in tops, 4-6 US (5-7 UK) in bottoms
(26 inch waist, 38 inch hips, 0.68 waist to hip ratio)
Small hands (smaller than women 5 foot tall).
I'm super extra small overall, look like a very curvy twig :-).
For size, you have to look at proportions, many things like hands and feet
are proportional to height. No tall women wears size 7 shoes.
I'm 5'8.5" last time I checked, my hands are pretty proportionate to my size, and pretty feminine looking. My shoe size is 9.5-10... I usually go for 10 'cause I like comfy shoes and I usually get skater shoes (so, size 8 in mens... a lot of the shoes are unisex and have both sizes on there).
I don't remember my body measurements for other parts; I haven't measured in a long time and really haven't cared to.
I've never had a problem finding shoes and I'm pretty average for hight -- actually, a lot of younger girls are now taller than me. My recent ex is 5'5" and wore size 10 (kinda big for her height). I have a lot of female friends that wear size 10, actually. I find it interesting in stores that cater to younger and 20-something size 10 is common, and so are longer clothes (long shirts/pants, etc) for longer bodies -- while stores that are meant for an older crowd usually have shorter clothes and lots of smaller shoes. And then walmart's clothes are just all uber big unless I shop in the kids section.
as for my body and how I "pass" I've never seemed to have any problems. Of course there are days when I see stuff that others don't seem to see, but I know that's my mind doing that -- it happens sometimes, to anyone, even non-trans people.
And I know plenty of women that look more boyish than a lot of people I know who are trans. My recent ex girlfriend, for example, who was often mistaken as my "boy friend" and once as my "son" by a taxi driver. So, I don't worry. And Iknow that many trans people do worry, but I find not worrying and being yourself makes a whole lot of difference rather than constantly thinking something about you is boyish (people pick up on you worrying, etc).
And then, of course, there's hrt and time -- it can be hard, but hrt combined with time really does a lot. I believe having surgery also helps with how you perceive yourself, as well as helping out the hrt.

i feel the same way obut this... when you're tall you attract attention so
people look at you more and therefore are more likely to see imperfections
i feel that smaller (not neceseraly shorter) girls can easier get away with
some masculine threats and that taller/larger girl are more likely to be "read"
if they have anything but feminine features
Hi Natalie, still counting down I see, That is good. Have a wonderful day.

My hands and feet aren't all that long, but they are almost square. Big slabs of unresponsive meat.
I'm 5' 7" tall
shoe size: U.K size 7
I'm 5'6", 135 lbs, small hands and head size. I wear 8 1/2 women's US.

Simone's Vital Statistics:
Disclaimer: Simone is not yet Full Time. Simone is a scaredy-cat about going out with vitals as listed below.
Height: 181cm (6.03ft tall)
Weight: Yeah ... right ... ;) I will say though that I am fairly muscular and consequently fairly heavy. E be my saviour :eusa_pray:
Shoe: Female Size 10 UK (Size 12 US, Size 45 EU, and Size 290 Japan ;D )
Hands: Quite big, but at least not those huge soup-plate hands.
Shoulders: Broad from too many years of Karate and weights. About 45 inches circumference.
Pinky Nails: Very feminine looking. Pretty much the only part of my hands I can bear looking at! ::)
~Simone.
5' 3" tall 125lbs, no muscles, small frame. Never could gain weight over 115lbs until in just the recent 4 years, Estrogen I guess. Now I have a pot I want to get rid of but at least I got some results in places I want as well. I walk a couple of mile per day. Shoe size 8 women's and of course my mane of long dark brown hair that I have always been proud of. Surprisingly no greys yet.
Cindy
I'm 6'2 feet tall. My hands are fairly small for my height, which still makes them bigger than most women's, but they don't look big.
My feet are unfortunatly very big though, size 45 by European standards. (Which according to another poster is 12 US and 10 UK)
Quoteso girls... i wanna hear how tall are you and what size shoes you wear,
and does height pose a problem for you when it comes to passing?
I'm 5-10 and size 8.5 feet and small hands... I have so much more to worry about than
height and feet/hand size. :)
What is considered a female range head size?
Amanda
Actually, women have bigger head in proportion to their bodies than men.
They're usually rounder both from front to back and top to bottom.
They're cranium is slightly smaller in the absolute, but since they're smaller
it winds up being proportionally significantly bigger. This, added to women
having less broad upper bodies makes the head much more proemininent in
women than in men.
One thing that's funny is that female's usually have bigger foreheads
than men. Men's forehead look big just because part of the top front of thier head
shows from losing hair.
Prorportionally
- So, women have a larger and higher forehead, but more rounded instead of flat and
inclined towards the back.
- The middle face is slightly smaller vertically (not by much)
in females, but larger horizontally (but not by much).
- The lower face is usually much bigger in males both horizontally and vertically.
6'4" for my height, size 14 for my dress size. Large hands, and size 15 womens(us scale). Oh and I weigh 240, but don't look overweight. Yet I pass, go figure. ;D
I'm 5'5", 145, size 6 US men's (size 7-8 for women's US, sorry I don't know the others sizing for other countries). My hands are small, but I think my fingers are thick. I don't remember my ring size, but they look a little pudgy to me.
I don't think size really has that much to do with passability, there are many taller women, it's all about confidence and how you act, talk, put the whole package together :)
5'10", 145+/- lbs, measurements en femme are 36(C) 28 35 (this is as wide as I can go using pads without looking freakish).
Hands- My hands are screwy, they are medium sized with long fingers, but, ring fingers are missing a bone at wrist, which make my ring fingers short, then on left hand, I am missinng the tips of my index and middle fingers due to a fight with a tablesaw.
Shoe sizing, womens US sizing, I wear a size 10 1/2 - 11 wide width runner, heels of course vary between 11-13 depending upon make, origin, weither or not the worker was in a good mood, etc...
My voice is my biggest problem, then I'd say movements, hands, hips, adams apple, teeth (I don't smile much), facial hair... height and shoe size are pretty low on my list.
Kelly
I'm 5'10" (178cm) and my US womens' shoe size is 9½ (EU 41, UK 7½). Before I started HRT it was US women's 10½, but HRT caused my feet to shrink and now even 10 is too large for me. I wear 3" heels so I actually stand 6'1" when dressed up. The last time I tried flats, I was wearing a minidress; looking in a full-length mirror, I was disappointed my legs didn't look as sexy, so I guess I'm addicted to heels now.
One of my counselors cited my big hands as a giveaway, but I don't think my hands are that disproportionately large for a woman of my height. My head has always been big for me, so that should help with overall proportionality.
I have been full time for over 6 months, and passing very well the whole time. I get a lot of compliments on my looks.
5'10 . Size 9-10 . 178 pounds and losing. Hands are the same size as my mommy's. I am a little broad shoulder for a woman of my type but for a man I am average to less. I pass pretty well.
There are a lot of you at 5' 10".......are women in America much taller than we are in England?
I'm 5' 7" and I think that's tall compared to the women in the area in which I live..
No I don't think women are taller here but it depends on your location. In work settings I would say
most women are 5"-6" or under. I rarely see a women that is even close to my height. But if you hang
around universities and women athletes like volleyball, basketball and the like you will fit in or even feel
short at 5"-10". At 5'-10" a women is in the top 1% of all women as far a height is concerned. A man needs
to be 6'-9" to be in the top 1%.
My SO was(is) an athlete and she is over an inch taller than me but all her friends were the same or
taller. It's amazing how much self-confidence tall women have and I've found that other women really envy
them because they are tall. So from my perspective being a tall woman is not in any way a bad thing.

As I understand it, there used to be a disparity due to the higher standard of living in the US post world-war two. Since then though, the EU has overtaken the US in comparative access to quality nutrition and healthcare, so one should see things changing as the younger generations grow up.

I don't get it! My weight is currently 171 and losing. I've been dieting and have just reduced from 188# in the last two months. I was scarcely heavier than you... and we're the same height... so how on earth are you able to squeeze into size 9? I've been wearing 14! And size 14 still fits me. Something doesn't add up here. Well, my waist has reduced from 37" to 34½ and I am starting to notice my skirts are getting too loose around the waist. Maybe I'm ready for 12.
I'm 5'-10" also and 15 pounds lighter at 155 and I can button a size 4M but 5-6M is fine (and more
comfortable). I think I have a very small frame and most of my mass is upper body muscle still.
Amanda
Hmm, I'm big-boned and my muscle mass is already way down. When I started wearing dresses I wore size 18, but with HRT I quickly went down to 14.
There may be some difference in sizing too.. I'm amazed that a size 6 is not very consistent
across brands.
Amanda
Yeah, nobody knows any more what size a given number actually is.

True. I've always had that, one of my most feminine features. It used to embarrass me, but now I glory in it. :)
I'm 5'8" size 7.5-8.5 women shoes US...depends on who makes them. Its pretty hard to find mens 6-6.5 size shoes so I mostly wear womens. Works out great...average is size 8 womens U.S.
Hands are small enough to wear a womans medium glove but like many others...my fingers look thick and pudgy. But I have really small hands. I'm pretty heavy...not really willing to divulge my weight at this point.

It answers the question Berleigh. Before the mid 70's, early 80's, healthcare and nutrition were comparatively better in the US than the UK, so anybody older than, say 25, you are gonna find, in general, that people from the US are gonna be a bit taller than those from the UK. The reverse will gradually become true for people now that the US has started falling behind the EU.
~Simone.
In the US, and Canada, there is actually not much difference in
height between someone of 45 and someone of 18,
besides the 0.5-1 inch lost to aging.
In Europe, China, Korea, there can be a big difference
since nutrition, both in terms of calories consumed and
nutriments and general health (how diseased you are
growing up), is representative of how much of your
genetic height potential you will reach.
But, once you've reached that potential, that's it.
That's why the younger generation, at least here,
is NOT taller than the previous one. Genetics
don't change in a generation, only its gene expression
(through environmental factors) can change.
Americans have already fallen behind in height compared to some European countries

There are lots more articles out there for anyone with time to hunt.

Yeah and why is that-- I blame all these Republican administrations and Congresses we've had since the 1980s that refuse to provide healthcare coverage to the American people, unlike all the civilized countries who do. Healthcare is run as a business only for the benefit of fat cat capitalists, not for the actual health of the people. Cuba puts us to shame in that regard, with an economy as poor as theirs, the level of public health care is superior to anywhere. But for all our enormous wealth, we have inferior public health. When will Americans wake up from our dream of being the greatest, most developed country on earth, and realize we're not any more... we don't even care for our own people!

Hi I didn't see the fairy and as for the character in the red I didn't know was something to do with a character in a movie that people like. Sorry, my error.
Cindy
i don't think height hinders too much with passing, while men tend to be taller and women tend to be shorter, it's not an exclusively male trait like some other things are. there are lots of tall pretty females. as long as you have the rest of your look together, you can pass no matter how tall you are. people are much more likely to say "are you a model?" rather than "are you a man?"
for shoes my feet are kind of big, i wear a US women's 10, sometimes 11 depending on brand & style. most people don't pay attention to foot size i think, they're more likely to notice the hands. im tall so most people will overlook my foot size, although my ex boyfriend did say i have big feet before though lol.
my hands are slender, my ring size is 6 to 6.5, when working at the cash register i noticed my hands are the same or smaller than a lot of women although they are usually longer, i have really long fingers so i guess that could be considered masculine. when i was younger i was self conscious about my crooked teeth and i still have a habit of covering my mouth when i laugh because of it, my one coworker who i was out to said my hands normally look feminine, but because i have a small face when i laugh and cover my mouth the longness of them compared to my face looks big lol. so i guess its a habit i will have to unlearn ;)

i agree i like the look of long thin fingers, i think its kind of elegant, i never thought anything masculine about it until my coworker mentioned it but i try to notice other people's constructive criticisms because i might see myself in a better or worse way than other people so its a good way to improve yourself.
of course its possible she also may have just been doing the thing a lot of cisgendered people tend to do when you come out as trans to them, where they try to come up with a masculine trait so they can say they had a clue all along & feel smarter lol. i remember one time i came out to a girl i went to school with and at first she seemed surprised then she was like "i had an idea all along" so i asked what it was so i could improve myself and she was like "uh....uh....your glasses! your glasses look kind of like a guy's style glasses" lol. after that i could kind of tell she didnt really suspect me of being trans before i told her

Thank you, boss.
im about 5' 6", i have small hands (i can take a small to a medium in womens leather gloves), and my shoe size is anywhere from a 7-8 US Womens and a 5-6 in US Mens... i happen to be pretty small. ;) and btw, just so everyone knows i started transitioning at 16 and a half and im now 17. :D
I am 5'9" and weight fluctuates between 140-150, shoe size is "10" woman's and hands are relatively small with small wrists and shoulders. My hair is dark and to the middle of my back. I am never satisfied and keep trying to improve.
I'm 5'11 weight 130-140 small thin hands, fingers and wrist, lost all muscle tone on arms (4 years on hrt) shoulders passable, small feet, shoe size womans 9 1/2 just wish my ribgage was a little smaller as it takes away from my almost size B breast. I'm thankful in many way so I should not complain... :)
Hi- I am sort of new here, but I am 6'4", and knew from the start that it would be difficult to pass because of my height. But through the years (I have been on HRT for 10 years, and lived as female for 7) I have come to see that it is even possible for me to pass. I think a confident attitude is important and dressing smartly is important. And there are lots of little things that add up to help us pass.
Passing was not real important to me at first, but as the years go by, it has become more important to me. I have FFS coming up next month, and I am all excited and scared at the same time. It helps to be able to read of your gender adventures and experiences, you are a bunch of good people.
Blessings,
Virginia
I live in Minnesota, land of the Scandinavian frost giants. I'm at approximately the 80th percentile in height for women here. Everywhere I go I run into women who are taller than I am.
I'm from the deep south where everyone is either close minded or obese; so, it seems to be that way. I have hands like my grandmother, or at least that is what everyone tells me. Basically, my hands are ideally proportioned considering the ratio between my fingers and hand proper. Also, my fingers are thin, but not too thin -- very feminine I hope. My hands aren't over-sized in relation to my proportions either. But, my feet... well that is a different story. My feet are average size for my height -- which is between 5 7 inches and 5 8 inches.
