Title: What's your favorite vacation destination??
Post by: MarcosGirl on June 03, 2006, 02:34:14 AM
My favorite vacation destination has got to be Maui, Hawaii.  It is the ultimate in relaxing vacations!  I have been there 4 times...it is kind of expensive, but if you stay in a place with a kitchen, they have a Costco on the island that is right next to the airport.  So, you pull in there as soon as you get off the plane and get your groceries for the week on the way to your condo/hotel.

Look forward to hearing about some awesome vacate spots!!

My favorite place I've visited was MontrĂ©al, Quebec.  It was a business trip, but I loved it anyways.

We went to the Big Island for a 10 day honeymoon in 2000, but now we go for as long as we can afford to Maui.  Our fifth Maui trip will be a once in a lifetime splurge of 2 months - 6 weeks at 2 rentals in Kihei and two weeks at a little inexpensive Honokowai timeshare we bought last trip.   When the extra income source ends next year, we should at least be able to do our 2 weeks in December.

Sure wish I had been better at ensuring a bigger retirement income.

Kyoto Japan

The gardens and buildings there were to die for.

I love the Adirondak Mountains in New York State - I would go there just to breath for a while, never mind the beauty and the recreational opportunities.

New York City is a fun place to visit ( but I'd never .  .   .    .)

And Germany, southwestern Germany in the hills and mountains - then down into Switzerland - the "prettiest" country I ever saw.  I've been in Germany in the summer, I'd love to go sometime for Christmas.

I grew up in New York City.  Now I live in the midwest.  I really like going back to New York to visit.  The museums and theaters are worth the trip by themselves.

I also like hiking in the mountains of Colorado.

The Rockies rate high on my list.  There is something magestic about the mountains that can not be ound anywhere else.  The drive up Rocky Mountian National Park is breathtaking - literally!  I had the best lack-of-oxygen buzz as we reached the high point at 12,200 feet.  You pass through so many climate belts on the way up.

The clouds crossing the Grand Canyon make it surreal looking.  You see the Colorado river slowly making its way through the canyon, continuing to cut into rock layers that are upwards of 2 billion years old.  The Pluto telescope is open to the public over near Flagstaff.  A grad student will stay with you and let you watch the stars in all their glory.

The Great Plains shows you what it means to have Big Sky!  Out away from the towns and cities, you can easily see stars that are barely visible her in the NE part of the United States.  The people are friendly - just slow your speech down a little and add a bit of a drawl. And you have not seen a thunderstorm until you have seen a Midwest thunderstorm!  I rmember a series of three seperate boomers marching side-by-side across the plains.  You could watch the lightning flicker up and down the sides of all three storms.  Magnificent!

I would love to see Mt. Everest, though I know that my body is in no condition to ever climb it.  Seeing it would be fine.  I would love to go explore my birth home of Saskatoon.  Ayres Rock and the Outback in Australia would be fun.  Seeing the great ice sheets of Greenland and Antarctica would be a thrill.

The ultimate vacation would have to be getting a ride on Burt Rutan's "Tier Two" spacecraft.  I think Virgin Galactic is charging about $20,000 per person for a suborbital hop.  Is it worth it?  For me, abolutely!

My favorite vacation location would be my home :)

I have been very fortunate over the years and have been to Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Kuwait, Egypt, Syria, Israel, Lebanon, Egypt, all of the European countries excluding the former East Block, many of the US States, and Mexico.  One place I would love to visit is in my own country would be Newfoundland and on top of that I think that Iceland would be a great place to see.

I'm with Steph. My favourite vacation place is where I live. Other people pay to come here and I get the pleasure of it year round. I'm living next door to where I grew up, on the beach.

Newfoundland is a hoot, Steph. I went to St. John's for a weekend on a holiday once and had the best time. Probably a good thing I wasn't drinking at the time because I could never keep up with the consumption levels there and I would never have been able to go out sightseeing the next day if I'd consumed half of what the others were drinking. And the sightseeing is well worth taking the time to do. Absolutely beautiful scenery and lots of history. And the people are fantastic. I've never seen more people with a great sense of humour in one place.

I'd say my favourite vacation place would be the beach in summer. I love the ocean. I love walking on it. The sea air cleans my mind. There is a beach club about 15 20 min. from my house that also has nature trails that I frequent often. Even in the winter its just lovely.

I need to say the most interesting I have been to on vacation was Egypt.
But Europe is most defiantly the best place to take your girl. Plus if you're in Italy you have the delicious food as well!!!

My favorite spot is literally in my back yard.
I have loved the Sierra Nevada mountains for years.
I've hiked hundreds of miles in the best granite on the planet.
From my backyard, and a very short walk,
I can see the cliff El Capitan and the famous Half Dome.
I only wish that I could backpack still.
But I have health complications from diabetes
that prevent me from walking that far.
Still, we drive up on a weekend on occasion to check up on
the water falls and the great old red giant trees.
I grew up in the Rockies and they are very nice
but the Granite of Yosemite with the glaciated valleys
and the 3000 foot cliffs just can't be beat
with any view anywhere on earth,
especially from the top looking down.
I once flew off one of those cliffs from Glacier Point
strapped to a hang glider.
Talk about a rush.

And if I can't get out to take a vacation,
I still have a lot of ground to cover in my own mind.
There's so much there that needs to be discovered,
excavated and written down to share with who knows who.

I have not had a proper vacation in a very long time but the last one back in the mid 90s was to Negril, Jamaica.  We stayed at a resort called Swept Away.  Adult couples only, all inclusive and a lot of fun.  :)  I would like to go back one day.  :)

I'm going back someday
Come what may
To Blue Bayou
Where the folks are fine
And the world is mine
On Blue Bayou
Where those fishing boats
With their sails afloat
If I could only see
That familiar sunrise
Through sleepy eyes
How happy I'd be

My favorite place is actually not very far from my home. We go there on weekends about 4 to 5 times a year, not including just drives over there. That is our Oregon Coast. We stay at a motel over at the coast and enjoy the walk on the beach and the climate. We love the waves and at different times of the year. The sea will have many faces on her and I enjoy all of them. I would love to live there but it effects my asthma if I stay too long. I only live about an hour from the beach and I can go over there anytime I want. I usually go over when I'm feeling down to talk to Goddess. She, in my opinion, lives out there. She is one beautiful lady.

Isn't it interesting how many of us are drawn to nature?
Especially when you consider the dirty little trick nature played on us?

It's just a thought.

I have been on One vacation in my adult life... we went to Panama City Florida...
took 4 days of continious driveing to get there. the wife and I were so beat all we did for the first 2 days was sleep... we did get to see "bath tub tempiture ociean water" which was a new thing to us.  we visited the property in the country that we had purchased sight unseen and cleaned it up so it was a working vacation... when our 4 days in the sun was up we headded back to Reno Nv. and on the way had a wreck in Austin TX.  I patched the car togather enough to get us home and when we arrived we were more than happy to be there!
... Vacations are for rich people.... and I've never been rich ...alwayse something gets in the way and drains the money needed for even a short trip.
but such is life !

When I was a kid we used to go camping all the time, we would hit the Guadalupe Mountians, and go to Ft. Davis and visit Mc Donald observetory.........  Or we would go to ohio to visit my moms family.

Now I dont vacation, I tour... which means I have the same bunch of guys with me every time, stinking of road sweat, getting drunk, and going to the same places..... So I dont really consider it a vacation.

Last time I had a real vacation was when I was 16 in the summer of 97.... it got cut short because my grandmother (dads side) passed away and we had to head back home for the funeral and all that 'fun' stuff.

Im hopeing to make my trip to Guadalahara <sp?> next year my first real vacation of my adult life and in 10 years :D   (yeah I have alterior motives but hey that dosnt mean I cant enjoy myself..... Right?)

MAUI!!!!!!!

And we'll be there for 2 months next time (Dec/Jan).  17 days in a cabin in North Kihei.  Two weeks in our little time share in Honohowai, and a month in a Kihei condo.  I'm sure we'll have some dinners with a trans couple we met last January in Lahaina.

2nd choice: A cruise to anywhere.  Next up is the Panama Canal next April.

The rewards for having been called out of retirement at six figures.

E komo mai.
Aloha, my ohana

No, vacations are for people who can budget.  Although I make enough money, I have trouble with budgeting and that's the reason I rarely take vacations.  The ones I have taken have been road trips for the most part.  It's always fun to just do something different.

You don't have to have money to have a vacation. You have to have a little imagination going for you. I remember as a kid, I would set up our tent in the back yard, during Summer time, and that would be where I lived. I loved it. I camped out for the whole summer. Would build a fire in an old broken BBQ and cook my dinner. My brother and I would eat out there. He was 7 years younger than me and that is where we lived. Any kid could do that now or in fact any one person could do that. No money there and its fun. Trips on a bicycle or if you can't do that a little drive every once in a while. We have a river close to us and we can drive down to the mall and park and go for a walk down the river and picnic by the river. We go over to the coast, now we spend a lot of money doing it, but it can be done for next to nothing if we didn't have the funds to do it. Just use your imagination a little. Be a kid again. That is what it all about.
