Title: First laser appointment questions.
Post by: kitty on April 30, 2008, 01:31:57 PM
Hello, so I booked my first laser appointment for the end of next month now I will be going in male mode as I am nowhere near passing but I am wondering what to say if they ask questions as why I am doing it.

So I guess I'm asking what did you say if you where asked why you wanted to remove your facial hair. Also they mentioned about certain medications like antibiotics might be a problem and would discuss this at the consultation so will I need to bring up about any hormones I am taking?

I just asked to have all my facial hair removed. He warned me, "you're going to look like a pre-pubescent boy you know."

I laughed and told him, "that's not exactly what I'm going for, but yes... I know."

And that was that. Well, until HRT made it impossible to hide the changes in the coming months, and I just flat out told him one day. No biggie. He was fine with it.

He told me a lot of "men" have PARTS of their beard removed - mostly under the neck. So it wasn't all that bizarre a request.

In hindsight, I should have told him upfront, just to make sure he fully understood the areas (everything!) I wanted done.

They will probably not assume that you are transitioning and want it all removed, that is something you need to make clear from the beginning. A lot of guys want it just reduced so they don't have to shave so much but this kind of treatment would prefigure a different approach, a much lighter treatment, to the nuking you need and want.
While it's not necessary to disclose you're taking hormones (has no bearing on anything they might do), it would help to bring them on board, specially due to the fact that at some point in the not too distant future the boy in you will be disappearing and it will be obvious anyway. You may not be their first m2f patient.

Besides, it's time to come out anyway ;)

Way to go!

ADD: I disclosed on my first visit, even if I only started going in "me" garb on my second.

I was asked how I heard of the clinic when I first went. When I mentioned the therapist's name, it was pretty clear what I was up too, as she has had several clients from this therapist. I was up front right away and I'm glad I was, because she knew what needed to be done....and now I am almost done, just a few gray strays that needs to be done with electrolysis and not laser.
I love it and my skin is so much better...

Thanks everyone.

They know I want it fully gone because the package I going for is for six treatments but she even said that for full beard removal will more than likely take more. She brought up the medication issue so maybe she was hinting at knowing a reason why I would want it but I am in Ireland so there is a good chance they might not have dealt with an mtf patient before. I guess I will be honest I was just worried it would be an issue as I have only been on hormones a few months and look quite male.

If anyone was honest and it caused issues please let me know how.

i was honest up front. the technician was the fifth person that i told. first non friend that i told. she was very nice and professional. she asked some basic t/s questions during my first treatment. it was scary and fun.

i have always gone in kinda male mode... maybe emo style.  no where near presenting as female yet. biggest thing for me was how serious it seemed. with hrt i always felt i could stop if i freaked out..... but with laser my beard would never, ever be the same.  now i freak out because there is still some left..lol.  finished 3 treatments so far.
