An estimated 1,200 activists from across the state gathered in Albany on Tuesday, April 29, to lobby lawmakers to back bills to extend marriage to same-sex couples, protect students from bullying in schools and prohibit discrimination based on gender identity and expression.

The Empire State Pride Agenda organizes this annual lobbying effort, known as Equality and Justice Day, each spring. Executive director Alan Van Capelle said the Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act (GENDA) remains his organization's highest legislative priority.
