Well, it is done! I called up the HR person a little bit ago and spoke with her. She was very polite and understanding. I'm going to send her some information by email. She's going to give me a call on Tuesday after she's had some time to learn more about it and then we can get together with my manager. So, now that the cat is out of the bag, I'll see where it goes from here.
Melissa
Congrats Melissa, that must be a huge weight off your shoulders. Keep us posted on how it goes :)

Thanks Dennis, NightAngel, Chynna.
Chynna, I haven't updated my diary in a while, because I've felt more comfortable posting here lately. About the bathroom issue, I mentioned that. The stuff I sent to HR suggests using the normal bathroom and having people who are uncomfortable using an alternate bathroom. Plan B is for me to continue what I've been doing and using the handicapped bathroom, but sometimes people occupy it for quite a while. So, that's pretty much what I'll say to them. The people are great that I work with though and I suspect that this also won't be a problem.
Melissa
I noticed when you dropped off in your diary you were more so active here.
Know this you will be suprised what people are going to suddenly have an issue with you or there demonor suddenly has changed...
CYA just a word of advise but then again I know you have that covered....Congrats again I really am envious\proud of you!
Chynna

Envious...For lack of a better word I don't know why I guess it was just up lifting pivitol time in my life where I looked back and said now I have accomplished something...
oh to relive that moment!!
on a off the subject personal note:
And the diet coke thingie we seen it on line but all the girls here wanted to actually see it happen!!So I sent a Data entry clerk out to wal-mart (she needed a break anyway)to buy a pack of mentos since we already had the diet coke. it was a very intriguing event!]
Got to go home now and change im kinda covered in diet coke!!! LMAO
Chynna
Melissa,
Congratulations! I am so incredibly happy for you!
There is a book at Amazon that might help your HR person. It's called Transsexual Workers: An Employer's Guide and I found it to be very good.
Go forth and conquer!
Chaunte
Way to go girl.
Best of luck that it all turn out right for you.
Jillieann
I have the book, free for the asking.
Leigh
Cool. I almost bought it today, then cancelled my order. Ok, could I borrow you book please Leigh? I'll be at pride on Sunday and maybe Saturday.

Update:
I found out the HR person is flying out and will be here June 26-27th. We are going to tell my manager at that time.
Melissa
Borrow hell. Its yours.
I'll be in the Dyke March Saturday evening and then in the parade on Sunday so it should be easy to meet up. I'll be the one in 7" platforms, big hair, makeup by Sherwin Williams, petticoats and crinolines.
Leigh
Hi Melissa:
That's wonderful, sweet heart. Hope you keep us posted about this new HR person....I am so excited for you!!!! Let me tell you one more thing, I am new here, but I am beginning to like you a lot!!!!
tinkerbell
Thanks Leigh. I will look for a very tall woman.
Thanks tinkerbell. I will definitely keep everyone posted. It really is fun living a life that people enjoy experiencing vicariously. I feel like I am the director of a movie, except it's not fiction. Also, you may be new here, but you're not new at life. Feel free to contribute anything to Susans as long as it remains in the rules.

[*UPDATE*]
I talked to the HR person on the phone this morning and we went over my concerns and it doesn't sound like there will be any big issues. I gave what I thought would work the best in a few situations such as the bathrooms. I said the only person I was concerned about not being respectful was my boss and the HR person said she had the same concern. I guess I am good at reading people. Hopefully that will go well though.
I also mentioned about giving some sensitivity training and she mentioned that she was planning on giving something about avoiding harassment and thought that it would be something good to add to that and I agreed. So, things are looking good.
Melissa
How in the world did I miss this thread.
Congratulations Melissa! It sounds like things are going great and I wish you the best. :)
I just noticed something. In the email signature of the HR person I have been communicating with is this quote:
"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body...but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, WOW! What a ride!" - Eddie Hinman
I guess that would have been a good clue that she's open if I had read that before.

[*UPDATE*]
Well, I talked to the HR person again and now I need to come up with a FAQ before monday. I've seen some good ones, so I shouldn't have any trouble with this. On Monday at 8:30, I have a meeting set up with my manager and the HR person to go over everything. He still doesn't know.
Melissa
Melissa,
What type of facts are ou looking for?
Chaunte
It's mostly a sheet of questions and my answers that I think are important. It's to give to others that may feel uncomfortable approaching me. I think I've gather enough info to throw something together.

[*UPDATE*]
Well, now my manager knows. We told him this morning and he is fine with it. He said that as long as work keeps getting done, he has no problem with it. I think my work will actually improve, so I don't see it as a problem either. We are going to come up with a timeline either later today or tomorrow.
I finished the information sheet and gave that to both the HR person and my manager. He was actually the person I was most worried about, so I think the rest should be much easier.
Melissa
That sounds wonderful Melissa. Really the only thing your manager should be concerned about is your work. After all, that is why your there isn't it?
I have noticed that most of the women working at the companies I do work for had very little to no problem with my transition.
Sarah L.
Again Congratulations sis quiet a breakthrough!!!
Sarah, I find I have the most issue out of females...Men find me fasciniting and intrigueing....or perhaps there too busy talking to my chest to actually give a shy!!!!!!
excuse me! ;)
Chynna, that is quite a rack from what I can see. I'd probably be talking to it too. >:D
Melissa, congratulations! That's great your manager took it well.

Well, this afternoon I talked to the HR person again (coincidentally, her name is Susan). We had a good hour long talk. The executives are now aware and very supportive and we set a tentative date for me to tell people on July 14 and me to go fulltime on July 17. The only reason it will change is if the execs foresee a major problem with that date. But, that's only 3 weeks away!!! We talked about a lot of personal things as well such as stuff going on in my life. So I am pretty out in the open now about other things I've been dealing with. She was very sympathetic. Earlier she had asked my manager how he thought my work performance was and he said it was fine. Well, I can definitely see myself improving in that area, so that's really good.
Melissa
So far my experience has been that the women I've told have all been accepting. I kinda chalked it up to the idea that people can better understand others identifying with their same gender, but maybe there is more to it than that. :)
Wishing you smooth sailing Melissa! BTW, July 17th will be a big day for me too. :D
That real sound great Melissa. Go girl go.
I wish you and Julie the best on the 17th of July.
Keep us posted. We are rooting for you both.
Hugs
:)
Jillieann
Thanks Jillieann! :)
Thanks both of you.

I can agree with your experience as I found much the same as far as attitudes between men and women go. However, I wouldn't use the word accepting but rather understanding and supportive. I believe that it takes men a little longer to get their heads around this.
Steph
Good. Understanding and Supportive is much better than accepting to me.
