Title: Advantages of being a Woman ?
Post by: Laura Eva B on May 06, 2008, 09:30:48 PM
This is I guess a light hearted question ... ;D .....

Sure we live in a "male dominated world", and its good to challenge perceptions, and make being female work to our avantage in life, job, or career.

But I'm not looking for "deep thoughts" here ..... just simple & trivial things !

Like how cars just stop for me when I want to cross a busy road .... or the train driver re-opening the train doors for me because he's seen my last second scramble up the stairs and onto the platform !

Repeated complimentary liquers at my favourite restaurant ....

I can think of a huge list of things but I'll let you fill in the details  ...  ;) ....

It's the only reason I've never been on the inside. Women truly are innocent until proven guilty. When proven guilty, they get much lighter sentences than men.

Another perk is that women get all the free sex they want.

That it is more socially acceptable for us to be emotional and express ourselves.  Men, on the other hand, are encouraged to be "tough" and "strong" and not permit themselves to be vulnerable. If I have a thought, an emotion, a laugh, a tear, I'm able to express it and just be called "opinionated" and not "sissy".

though whenever a male will show emotion it is taken seriously. A girls emotion will just be blamed on "that time of the month"

Sorry Nero .... but guys get the free sex, women give it !

Just that as women we can choose who to "bed", its absolutely our decision .... a huge power we have over guys .... guys are hopeless and will never turn sex down !

Women are *allowed* to be emotional. (how they act)

They also are *allowed* to express their emotion through dress (colors, fashion.....men's clothing is just YUCK!)

I didn't want to have to say this, but what's the point of wondering what the benefits of being a women are?  Sounds like someone is weighing his/her decision on which direction to go?

The biggest advantage I have seen for myself: the ability to be comfortably myself in most activities without having to hold parts out. Especially in the ways Tink wrote about. And for the same reasons, I imagine.

As a male androgyne with two daughters I am honestly quite excited for them - it is an excellent time in the world to be a female! They can be whoever they want to be, a freedom in which I believe that men in some ways are limited (saying since i'm a guy, and see the limitations on the male existence). There seems to be so many choices available to females, while males seem to be limited to a few traditional roles, all of which are quite drab  :-\

ha ha..well, guys can't frequent at parks or wait for their kids at an elementary school playground, or chat with a thirteen year old online, or make friends with girls twenty five years younger than him, or sit in their car making phone calls in a parking lot after business closing hours, or walk a city sidewalk twenty feet behind a woman at two in the morning without having the cops called on them or drawing serious suspicions about their intentions.  we can! >:D

Tasha, you are so right!! I hadn't considered any of those until you posted. All are spot-on though.

When my car has broken down as a woman, knights in shining armor appear, as a guy, it was much harder to find this kind of help. I am definitely not mechanically inclined and never have been.

Agree....
Being able to express myself fully...instead of being limited by the chains of testosterone...

I found one, the other day, i was shopping for some groceries. And found a lot of people were letting me through first (I'm not so long going 24/7 so this was all new for me.)  ^-^
So far everything else feels good, even the non-verbal interaction with other people. (If i open my mouth i might get outed. :( )

Absolutely, there is a huge difference in terms of my expectations about the world and I do not need to dominate or be right in all situations anymore.

EXACTLY all the things that broke my heart before. I STILL feel hurt when I walk outside my door and all the wildlife scatters and hides, like I'm some ruthless predator looking for a kill constantly. I kinda felt the same way as a guy too... like I was being miscast, misjudged, misplaced... stuck as a sheep in wolf's clothing. I realize not all men are predators of course, and that it's a reflection of my own inner struggles as much as anything, but still... it hurt.

On a more light-hearted note, I really love never having to wait to merge into bumper-to-bumper traffic (etc.) anymore. Not like people were particularly mean to me as a guy, but everyone and anyone always does me that favour now, with a, "you go right ahead honey..." wave, lol.

Ah, home at last ;)

I agree with the whole non-threatening thing.
You can take your cousins to the park and not look like a creepy guy on the prowl for children.
Oh, and the ability to express emotions freely is a great relief from having to be a stoic stone faced man.

It is probably better to start a new topic, than to revive one that is five years old, and for which many of the original commentators are gone or inactive.

Thank you.
