"It puzzles me because we even have well-intentioned parents who
we care about and who know us ... say, 'Well she's too young to know!'
Well, when did you know you were a girl? When did I know I was a boy?
I knew my whole life, I can't tell you exactly when, but it wasn't
like I was 10 and realized, 'Oh gee, I must be a boy!' " Robert says.
"What people fail to realize is they made that decision way earlier
than that. It just happened that their gender identity and their
anatomy matched."

The more I contemplate homosexuals contemplating transsexuals the more I am totally convinced that they do not 'get it.'

I saw a sympathetic man in this essay, whose sympathy somehow balances on worrying about amputation and a sense that this 'contagion' (whatever contagion it might be, amputation, bizarre sexual practices or multiple-personalities) spread by knowledge and treatment leaves me wondering if his concern is that we exist due to the contagion of discovering others like us?

If so, I wonder how he feels about what seems to be the 'growth' in the number of gay males and females who are 'out' in today's society and whether or not that is also a contagion of knowledge. Betcha his answer would be, "Of course not!!"

To discover that one isn't alone, not any 'wierder' than many others and that there is an interminably long human history of what is deepest in one's soul can be very unfettering. Is the point that if people don't find out that the difficulty will disappear? Or do the people simply disappear?

Thanks you, anarchistic, atheistic woman, for the link.   >:D
