Title: My turn...
Post by: TylerTerp on June 21, 2006, 02:39:51 AM
Hey.

My name's Tyler, and I live in Indiana. I haven't been outwardly identifying as FTM for very long (since March), but I've taken as many steps as I can at this point. I told my mom in April, and we talk about it every once in a while. She's relatively accepting, but says she isn't ready to use male pronouns or call me by the name I've chosen. She also told my dad, but I haven't talked to him about it. She told me he said they should try to be as supportive as possible, though, so I'm pretty lucky in that aspect.

I have a girlfriend, Alicia. We've been together almost 4 months, but we've known eachother for over a year. We both got out of pretty long relationships (2 years for me, 3 for her) just last year. It feels like we've been together for so much longer than the reality. I told her on our one month anniversary that I was considering testosterone, and she's been extremely supportive and great about it since then. I was pretty shy about it at first - I took to writing her letters about it even though she was in the bed next to me. Now I'm out to all of my good friends, and at school (which is probably because I go to an alternative school and there are only about 30 people, tops).

I pass pretty well now that I cut my hair - I'm comfortable enough to use the men's bathroom (as long as I'm in a place where no one knows me...I'm not quite ready to try it out at school).

I've devoured every book, documentary and online resource I can find, but I feel like it's time I started talking to other trans people. You can't learn everything from a book, I know that.

Anyway, it's nice to meet all of you. It's great to find an accepting place to be able to talk and ask questions.

Thanks for being here.

Tyler.

Hey there Tyler.  Welcome to Susan's.

Well it seems that you have come a long way for being so young, that's great as you have a lot of advantages and some disadvantages.  You are quite right that although devouring as many books on trans issues is great personal experiences in the real world go a long way as well.

Check out our Chat area, the links and the forums and don't forget to browse through the Wiki as there is a lot of information there as well.  So relax my man you're among friends.

Steph

Hi Tyler!

A belated Welcome to Susan's!  I'm sorry I missed your intro - musta beena brain cramp or sumpthin!

I hope you enjoy it here as much as I do.  Yes, I agree that talking to other trans people is very beneficial and will show the personal points of view that the documentation dosn't have.

Once again, WELCOME ! !   :D
