"A transsexual has failed to have his name and gender changed to that
of a woman after the Court of Appeals (CA) upheld the government's
position that the entries to his birth certificate should not be
changed."

Stories like this are horrible...  Where in the world did this happen anyways <I couldn't find a location>

I've been to court twice trying to get my name and DL changed... First time the judge outright denied, the second time it was denied because of a small typo on my petition <I asked for gender marker change instead of sex marker change on my DL>

Third try is coming up after I have surgery next month... and I'll have a lawyer by my side heheheheh.

Its sad that predigest<sp?> in legalities is as much if not more of a hinderer than the average bigot on the streets... That the law can act as a wide scale enabler for discrimination is the saddest thing of all...

Title: Sex change illegal, appeals court says

More here. And no, this paper isn't any better with pronoun use...

Sex change illegal, appeals court says

http://www.manilastandardtoday.com/?page=news5_may19_2008 (http://www.manilastandardtoday.com/?page=news5_may19_2008)

THE Court of Appeals has rejected a transsexual's plea to change his name and gender to female on grounds no law allows the change of name and sex of a person who has undergone sex-change surgery.

The court's 16th Division said a Quezon City court erred when it ordered Pasay City's Civil Registrar to change Gilbert Duran Deposoy's name to Veronica, and his sex to female from male, in keeping with the principles of "justice and equity."

Quote"Sex reassignment is not a ground to change a person's first name...

This is even worse than I thought.  I can understand why gender is a complicated question, but who cares if someone changes her/his first name?

It's because frequently the people in power are the ones who shouldn't be. IE power corrupts.
