Excerpt:
Lawmakers took another step Wednesday toward putting a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage on the Pennsylvania ballot.
The state Senate approved the proposed amendment 38-12.
Pennsylvania already has a law defining marriage as between a man and a woman. But Sen. Jane Orie and other Republicans warned that without a constitutional amendment, a judge could act on a legal challenge and effectively legalize same-sex marriage or civil unions.
I'd rather vote for a constitutional amendment to ban bigoted, ignorant, "let's legislate my personal theocracy" senators.

I second that. They are taking away freedom of religion.
Melissa
They are definitely trampling on basic human rights. I firmly believe that humans rights should never be voted on.
Steph
"Screw em!"
LOL Being a PA resident The law in itself pisses me off....But Looking at the brighter side I don't need a goverment or society to proclaim and document my undying love & commitment for a person.
And There are other "Legal" ways of getting & ensuring the same kind of reconigition & rights for my spouse has if we weren't "by law" a same sex couple.
To me Legal marriage is just a piece of paper which most people abuse and don't appreciate....
Maybe if they let same sex marriages the divorce rate would go down!!! IRony

But then we run the risk of not being so over-populated. :o There would be more resources to share between people and stuff wouldn't be so expensive. Life on this earth would end as we know it. ::) What would we ever do then?
I think I just broke the sarcasm meter againMelissa
Yea, I live in New Hope, which is about as liberal as liberal can possibly get. We have a drag race up main street every halloween... and I"m not referring to cars.
I'm reminded, however, every time I visit my parents out near Altoona... where everyone drives a pickup, the first day of deer season is a school holiday, people walk down the street carrying their shotguns (hey, it's hunting season!), and it's not "soda," it's "pop." And we don't wash, we "warsh up" for dinner. Sorry, not dinner, we "supp." At noon.

I agree with you 100% there Chynna. I don't need a peice of paper either to legalize my marriage and undying love and commitment to another pertson. And you're absolutely right, there are other ways of to make it legal.
Gina :)[/color]
It's so unfair. How could this pass 38-12!? :o
Grr. >:(

Chynna, you'd have my vote if I lived in PA!
Heck, I'd vote for you even if I weren't a resident if I could get a video of Rick Santorum's face when he finds out he lost to you. >:D
helen
Hey if the dead can vote in Tenn (http://www.dailynews.com/news/ci_3964839). then out of state residents voting in Pa. should be a snap.
Barrie, my boyfriend has proposed to me and we'll be getting married in a few months. He told me that he can't wait to put a nice rock on my finger! :) We'll be flying out to Las Vegas to a small little chapel to santify our marriage. When two people are in love, it's so exciting!
Yeah , I know what I said before, but in this case, I just want to make it legal.
Gina :)
Congratulations, SIS!!!
I expect an invitation..always a brides maid never a bride!......

Wow, I didn't know Las Vegas allowed that (I just looked it up). Congratulations and you're not even fulltime yet ;). Better get cracking.
Melissa
Thanks for the congratulations. Melissa, as for going full time, I'm quickly working on that and I should be starting in July. We're not planning the wedding until September. Alls invited.
Gina
Have you chosen a date for going fulltime. I'm starting in July as well, tentatively on July 17.
Melissa
What a pack of jackholes! >:(
I really don't see how it's any of the government's business on whom marries whom except for tax and documentation purposes.
I think that it's laughable that the conservatives declare that they want to keep the union between man and woman sacred. Now, come on! Nobody's been keeping it sacred since at least Henry VIII! And theocracies are scary things, I payed attention in my history classes! I hope this never replaces our democracy.
As for amending the constitution, somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but I can't think of a single amendment that actually takes away a citizen's right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
The only amendment that restricted any freedoms was the 18th Amendment, Prohibition, which banned alcohol.
That amendment was, of course, later repealed.
Hey Melissa, that is so wonderfully COOL!!! :) ;) :) ;) I'm planning on going full time July 15. Everything should work out in my favor as well! :) ;) :) ;) It's really so nice to be finally moving forward.
More power to us!
Gina :)
Well, I guess it will technically be July 15 too. I'm going on a camping trip that weekend as female since I was living part time as female on weekends anyways.
Melissa
Coincidence or what!? I've been living part time as a woman on the weekends as well! :) That's so cool that we have so much in common! :) It's really going to be so nice not having to jump back and forth between genders.
Gina :)
So, I thought you worked for your mother and she was completely against your transition. ??? Is she letting you work there as female or did you get another job?
Melissa
Yes Melissa. I started my new job at Walmart four weeks ago, and on August 16 I'll be transferring to a brand new store. I've been very subtle in my transition so far, like wearing female jeans and shoes, and nobody has noticed much so far. Some tee shirts I've been also been able to get away with as well. Before the 15th of July I'll be having a little chat with my store manager, and I'm sure that she'll see things my way. When I was in the orientation, they kind of enforced that if we have a problem with whatever job we've been assigned, don't quite, talk to management and they'll find something that is suitable, so I'm pretty certain that I won't be fired.
Hey Kelly, really nice to hear from you.
I agree with you on your thoughts that it doesn't really matter who marries who except for tax and documentation purposes.
And there shouldn't be an amendment that should take away our rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. :)
Gina :)
You may want to talk to them before picking a date to go fulltime. They may want to come up with a plan for coming out to everyone or your current transfer may work just fine. My work HR and manager are the main ones who decided that particular date and I thought it would work just fine. Are you legally changing your name? Don't forget to let the apartment manager know about the change so you don't get in trouble. I'm just afraid that you may have not worked out all the details, but I hope you have. Good luck.
Melissa
Thanks for your concern Melissa. Most of my friends that I work with already know, so it's no big deal to them. When I get transferred to the new store, my job will be the same, whish is basically collecting carts outside and I'll be working with five other people, but basically I'll be working alone. The only change is that this time they'll be working with a female instead of a male. As I said before, Walmart is lienant like that, and I don't foresee any problems. :)
I went to the justice center last month and I got my name legally changed, and it went through with no problems. The Judge approved it. I guess that you have legally changed your name. Just been changing the important things first. Don't worry, I'll be covering everything.
Gina :)
It sounds like all you need to do is come out in the next 2 weeks. I wouldn't recommend waiting until your at the new store and just showing up dressed or waiting a few days beforehand and just telling them. Also, if you changed your name with social security, then you need to tell them ASAP. According to our HR here, if the name on the paychecks doesn't match what social security has, then they will get fined. :o They may confront you about that and that would blow your chances of transitioning on the job.
I guess my point is, planning your fulltime date before even talking to employers may not be such a wise idea.
By the way, my court date isn't until next week, so I'm not legally Melissa yet.
Melissa
Thanks Melissa for your ongoing support. I plan on seeing my store manager this weekend to discuss with her about the changes in everything, so I may be starting to go full time before I start at the new store. :) It's amazing on how fast everything happens!
I hope that your court day goes well :)
Gina :)
Well, I asked the HR person to confirm the dates and she wants to move it a week sooner. :) So I may be coming out to everyone next week. Things definitely are moving fast. Once I hear official word of the dates, I'll make a more visible announcement.
Melissa
I'm really happy for you Melissa, and I really hope that everything goes well and that everybody ajusts to the changes. I think that that is the hardest part; the pronouns and the physical changes and just getting use to it.
Have a wonderful Fourth of July
Really like your new photo. Your hair looks great!
Gina :)
