Q Of The Day: Pedestrian Idea?

Those darn interesting Copenhagians! What will they think of next?

A majority of Copenhagen's city council supports a proposal to change figures on some of the city's pedestrian crossing signals from a man to a woman, reports Nyhedsavisen newspaper.

The current 'walk' and 'don't walk' lights depict the silhouette of a male figure. But if the move was intended to represent gender equality, Hanne Bille, president of the Association for Equality, wasn't impressed, calling the plan 'strange' and 'a waste of money'.

I am all for equality, but this is a bit too far.

I could see trying for a gender neutral look on new ones and replacements, but to replace perfectly good signs with another one but opposite is not only just shifting the problem, but it is also a waste of money and resources that could better be spent elsewhere.

Honestly, I never looked at the signs as being biased. What is next no white (green in this case) and red, since it depicts racism?

People are looking too hard to spot bias these days, the only reason they see it is because they are trying to make it into an issue.
