There are a lot of reasons not to pull into an Exxon station of you need to tank up, but this one is a constant. Every year since 2000, a proposal to add sexual orientation and gender identity to the oil giant's employee policies has come before shareholders and has been rejected. This year was no different.

    Approximately 40% of Exxon's outstanding shares voted in favor of the clause, but it was not enough to send the issue to the oil company's board of directors.
