Title: Social Ignorance
Post by: ANewMe on May 31, 2008, 11:34:14 AM
I had a recent experience that was quite uncomfortable and the situation was primarily due to my own social ignorance. You see I was at the gym taking a steam. This older gentleman came in and started to talk to me this guy was easily old enough to be my father.  After a while it became obvious that he was hitting on me, once I realized it I became quite embarrassed. I realized then that not having grown up female I really didn't know how to handle unwelcomed flirtation. I then got quite uncomfortable being in such a confined space, the heat from the steam and the fact that this guy was closer to the door and I was wearing a bathing suit was not lost on me either.

I'd like to say that I've overcome this situation however it's been a few months and I've yet to venture back into the steam room. I'd like to say that I've figured out some good ways to handle unwelcomed flirtation as well, however I've not.

Have any of you experienced anything similar?

I think a lot of girls would've felt vulnerable in that situation.

Yes, a lot of us would.

I'd leave and try to make sure I was there with at least one other woman in future, preferably with a group of people in the chamber as well.

In truth he said nothing creepy or acted in approprieatly in any way really. It really was complete ignorance on my part. I really felt the lack of socail experiance that growing up female must afford natal women. I'm more aware now.
