Will the Transgender Dad Be a Father?

"Oregon statutes define live birth to include "expulsion or extraction [of the living child] from its mother," and the state's Department of Human Services interprets this clause and others to mean that a birth certificate must declare the childbearer (in this case, Beatie) to be the mother."

just like i've been saying all along children need parents, no matter what sex they are or how they are referred to. i wish it was that simple everywhere.

My congrats to the new parents.

For clarifaction purposes, Transdad = what exactly?  My understanding is that a Transman cannot be a father, a mother before SRS maybe but not post-op. Are we talking of fatherhood in the context of parenthood?

Mickie is of course correct. Children need parents, nothing more than that.  The Oregon statutes are the written democratically passed laws of that state and as a Law student ( English Law ), it is clear for everyone to see.    On a personal level, I agree that the carrier of a child via pregnancy be declared the mother.  Consequently, if that transman currently pregnant gives birth, the HE is the mother  :-\

Am I wrong here  :icon_help:

If the parenting can match the PR that's going to be a great kid.  I'm not sure they are transferable skills however.  I am pretty sure that the more attention paid to them, the less likely a good outcome is.

To say that he is the mother is blatently transphobic, and so oregon's anti-discrimination laws should apply.

IMO, a child's female parent should be called a mother and a male parent a father, and i don't really care who gives birth!

That is, even for me, a unique version of the English language.  Yeah, kids need parents (not friends, friends they can find on their own) but it remains to be seen -- after all, anyone can be a father, or mother, but not everyone can be a dad or mom.

here's something to ponder, maybe we should ask the seahorses?

the male is the one who gives birth, does that make "him" a mother or a father? what about the female sea horse?

Great, but the kids not going to be raised in the ocean, its going to be raised in Oregon.

If nature is a good guide, perhaps the mom should have acted like a Black Widow.
