Title: Bad Questions to Ask a Transsexual with Calpernia Addams
Post by: Terra on June 14, 2008, 09:47:42 AM
From Youtube:

QuoteAfter years of teeth-grindingly ignorant and insulting questions, Calpernia Addams finally snaps and shares her list of Bad Questions which you should never ask a transsexual. These are all real questions from real life!

I found this extremely humorous. Sad though that I can relate to every question asked.

that vid got featured recently on youtube and wow, did she cop alot of flak!  Not many people could understand Calpernia's style of sarcastic humour.  Some of the comments were pretty horrific.  I don't think there is as much open mindedness as we would like to think.

*gigglesnorts* I love her blunt, sarcastic style.

EDIT: I decided to head over to YouTube to check the comments on this vid, wow, what a mixed bag it is. All of the dorks who are spouting the standard "you TS's  are just a bunch of mutilated men" are incredibly pathetic. Not that it's news to me just how worthless people like that are but.....wow. What a bunch of sad losers.

I have to be honest, I didn't really like it because I don't mind being asked these questions personally and it came across like she was speaking for all transsexuals.  I probably just took it too seriously!

I thought it was funny, but then I'm not getting asked those questions (not out).

I'm sure most who see me think I'm a butch lesbian, because they're common in my area, but if you knew me, I'm NOT butch.  So I get stares at the moment.

I don't have cable TV, but was able to watch the entire first episode at Calpernia's website. Fun show.

My mom showed me this video a couple weeks ago. We watched Transamerican Love Story together. Calpernia is such a sweetie - she was really torn up when she had to eliminate someone from her show. Great sense of humor, too.

Here is a link to a bit more about the life of Calpernia Addams.  It wasn't all fun and "reality shows" back then.  It was more "reality" for her and the soldier who was dating her, when she apparently was pre-op and working in a nightclub in Memphis.

It is sad that there has to be always thorns that come with the rose.

Thank goodness most of the media has gotten better at reporting about us.  They called it a homosexual relationship and referred to Calpernia as "he". ::)

Hi, Beyond, just thirty years ago the public wasn't that well informed. Everything that was classified as gender variant were called queer or homosexual, and both those words meant everything under the label of "sick." So yes, there have been great steps forward on educating the general public about the other gender variants,  especially those of the trans community. But the correct information is still not all that widely spread so as to be common knowledge. Then you get this negative stuff that again it is sending folks recoiling, scurrying back into their dens of ignorance and hate, in fear of this gender disease, like Tv's, TG's, transexuals, chick with a D:-->.. and all that other stuff. So much is still the stuff of Jerry Springer.  And now we have Zucker and Blanchard from the Clarke Institute in Toronto classifying us as autogynephilic.

But in my opinion I can still see where there is a light at the end of the gender identity tunnel, and I don't believe it to be the headlight of an on-coming train.
