Title: Perhaps we need to rethink this
Post by: tekla on June 14, 2008, 06:52:09 PM
Heterosexual women, Dr Chivers and her colleagues found, were no more excited by naked men doing yoga or tossing stones into the ocean than they were by the control footage: pans of the snowcapped Himalayas.

Interesting results!

I wonder what would happen if a similar study was done with heterosexual men.

Alright, don't jump to conclusions!  How much of the whooping & hollering guys do is related to peer pressure & bravado?  Do men act the same way if alone as opposed to being in a group setting?

You might be surprised...

Or not.  Men are pretty simple creatures after all.

Or maybe there's a tendency for men to be more visually aroused and women to be more verbally aroused.

You may be right about that, Lisabeth.  It sounds vaguely familiar.

Let's transform the quote and see how it performs:

Quote
Heterosexual men, Dr X and his colleagues found, were no more excited by reading romance novels than they were by the control texts: travellers' guide descriptions of the Himalayan mountains.

This doesn't necessarilly mean women are less interested in sex than men.  I think men get more excited looking at women than women do looking at men because men used to do women from behind.  Sorry to be blunt but to put it another way if a female chimp can see a male chimp then chances are they're not having sex right now ;D  Maybe they should try measuring the women's excitement levels when someone whispers in their ear or hugs them from behind

Maybe the truth is naked men are not all that exciting to look at...

That is definitely true!

Although I would think that a good travel book of the Himalayas would be a better turn on. I loved Anagarika Govinda's, The Way of The White Clouds!!  :)
