Title: THE WORLD CUP
Post by: jaded on July 04, 2006, 05:48:56 PM
did anybody see the game today ?
it was amazing how Italy shot two goals in the last 2 minutes of the game
i thought for certain Germany would win they looked like they were kicking some "rare end" today .
the Italians showed them
im a happy camper (nothing against Germany i love the place just not the team)
             take care

Didn't see the world cup but I heard some score from co worker. I was wondering who still in the final?

That was a good game today.  I am just glad I was not eatting anything because when Italy scored the two goals in less than a minute my jaw dropped and I stared at the TV for a good 10 minutes before the phone rang and knocked me back into reality.   I was rooting for Germany (fiancee is German) since England was knocked out.  Now... Ugh, anybody but France!!  I like Italy and Portugal...so I hope they play one another, but if I had to pick, I would pick Portugal since I love the people and the country more than Italy.

As for who is still in it...  Tomorrow is Portugal vs. France.  Winner will play Italy for the championship Sunday and the loser will play Germany for 3rd place (and 4th) on Saturday.  So those are the 4 teams still playing.

I think maybe France will win and go for Itay.  Maybe Portugal will take third :p then again I could be wrong...
But two goals in less than a minute is a WOW event. You dont see that every day for sure.

I just watched the Italy vs. Germany game (it was replayed and I missed the live game), that was unbelievable! Really glad they replayed it, 2 goals in 1 minute! No wonder they've made it to the finals every years since 1970!

Gli Italiani sono superiori al calcio e siamo anche molto erotici!

L'Italia umilierà nessuno loro affrontando!

well I have no favorites this time. This Portuguese team has no Eusebio, really leaves me cold. al and all Germany put on a good show.

I just realize that I was supressing my feelings, trying to be miss serenity, yes I do not want France to win, I do not want to see french people feeling more holier than thou than they already are. the maddening thing is they have not done anything personally to me, which has been a long standing rule, some changes need to be made...root for Italy... hey my grandfaher was Italian...viva il Azzuri!
Italy will win in the bottom of the 9th just like Lost in time predicted, with all bases loaded  Zidane in 3d, henry on 2nd vieira on 1st  BArthez stikes out...fin de camino :D

Why Is it that  I don't want france winning? is it because with the excepton of zedane, their football stinks, or is it because their cheese (culture) stinks... I guess they are ok is just that there are so many other more deserving teams i feel...what went wrong? look at Spain, England, Holland! much better teams...i DON'T KNOW  is a damn conspiracy I tell you..then
that is the beauty of it , even the beasties can win ( beauty and the beast...so corny...ahh well)...so am washy washy on my opinion my excuse: I have been listening to the Democrats and Republicans far too long

hehe, I can just say I don't want France to win because I hold a general grudge against France.   Could be because they always seemed so rude, even when visiting other countries where they were guest.
Could be because I am of Scottish and English heritage and I favor other Europeans above them if I have a choice...
Could be because I feel they are weak as a country in the world of politics when the world needs backing against terrorist...

Not sure 100%, I just know thats the last country I want to see win.  Never thought I would be a huge Italy fan outside of my clothing choices, but well... last time I lived in Italy the only bad thing I had to deal with was learning 3 cars can drive in 2 lanes and never visit mafia areas if they are in a bad mood.  But hey, good food and great designers!

oh ciao bella

check: http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/060703/1/8j4r.html  for comentary on why france got so far into the finals from an interview with valdano....Twenty years after winning the FIFA World Cup™ with Argentina, Jorge Valdano remains a prominent figure in world football. A straight talker widely respected within the game, the erudite 50-year-old ex-striker has influenced an entire generation of football fans around the globe with a stream of thought-provoking books and articles
sample:
And the bad news?
There's plenty of that too. The main problem is there isn't much risk-taking going on and that's true for both coaches and players. Everyone's sticking to what they've been told to do. No one tries to go on a run or hit a crossfield ball for fear of breaking the pattern of the game. Naturally enough, the greater the pressure – from the Round of 16 onwards, for example – the harder teams play and the greater the fear of trying something different.

So that is when figures like Zinedine Zidane make their mark even more?
Exactly! In tight games like the quarter-finals someone with the zest, talent and vision of Zidane stands out head and shoulders above the rest.

I thought that might get your crankcase going  :D

Well I dont place gender in sport. In sport everyone should be equal. Don't matter if female or male. If in male team or female time. In sport we all have one goal that is to win and have fun doing it.
Never heard of netball. Well always come up with some new game anyway. I been through war game dont they they would call netball as a combat game.
Title: Re: THE WORLD CUP
Post by: Rana on July 10, 2006, 06:49:56 AM
Born, netball is a "female" version (I think) of basketball.  It has a big following in Australia & New Zealand, and the South Pacific, dunno about other countries.  But having said that the Australian Womens basketball team "The Opals" is the best in the world. Netball & Basketball are similar but essentially different.

As far as gender in sport, I disagree, women do not have the sheer strength and maybe the savagery that is essential in many (especially team) sports.

In truth I could not see my son and his army mates playing Netball - he may have been having me on, or, maybe they have sort of spiced up the game to call it Combat Netball :)

I dont know.. women may not have the strength for it. but that doesnt mean anything. women are creative im sure they can do it their own way.
lol man pull water out of the well and im sure woman would create pulley to do the same thing. Just think people who may not be strong sure can do things just the same as people who are.
