"RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The couple walked into a Norfolk courthouse on a spring day, exchanged a few words, and within 10 minutes, were seemingly husband and wife. It was an unremarkable ceremony — except that several weeks later, officials realized the shapely bride might not have been a woman."
The whole way the story is written is really insulting. I expected better from the Washington Post. Like putting the word "bride" in "scare quotes." I might as well add that I'm not impressed by their "journalism."
I overheard this story on the TV news just now, and it was even more insulting: They called the bride a "transgender man." >:( Someone should remind them of the Associated Press guidelines (http://www.glaad.org/publications/archive_detail.php?id=3869) to refer to trans people by their target gender.
I read the article too. All the while I was reading and wondering how they found out. Well, the bride, did everything backwards. She went down and changed her name after the wedding. I guess she didn't even try and change her gender on the ID that she had. I think it would have gone OK if she would have put all her rocks in line and done it the right way. Like getting all your documents in order first, then going down and getting the license to marry.
Newspapers and the media are not what you call gender saavy.
They only write for their readers, if they ain't, what's it say about those who read it?

A prosecutor says the decision to press charges could turn on whether the pair knowingly misled officials when they applied for a license and later, traveled to a courthouse for a ceremony. If the bride was transgender, and identified as a woman, it is unclear whether the marriage would be considered illegal.

Nothing more. Those articles are the identical text from the first one. Except that Fox News changed the headline to read "Man Dressed as Bride..." :icon_userfriendly:
