Title: Who's gonna love you when your lips are gone?
Post by: joannatsf on July 03, 2008, 03:35:40 PM
Paul Simon's song Outrageous came on the radio.  When it came to the chorus I could have sworn he was singing  "Who's gonna love you when your lips are gone?"  Okay, i finally figured out he was singing "Who's gonna love you when your looks are gone?"  I know I've made confusions in the past on songs, but this is a favorite.  Anyone else have a song lyric that made you wonder "What the hell is that supposed to mean?"

"All You Need Is Love":

The lyrics to the intro (right after the snippet of the Marseillaise) and the background vocals to the verses go, "Blah, blah, blah! --- Blah, blah, blah! --- Blah, blah, blah!"

(And you thought they were singing "Love, love love," didn't you!)

Just the other day I realized that in "Love is a Stranger" Annie Lennox was singing, "And you're left like a zombie."  I always heard it as, "And you laugh like a zombie."

*Tries to imagine zombies laughing*  :icon_blink:

"There is nothing that competes with heaven"

is what i thought the first line was to Aimee Mann's song, "You Could Make a Killing"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6GrJFSMew4
but actually, it's "There is nothing that competes with habit"
:)

For some unknown reason, I woke this morning with Bob Marley's "Jammin'" playing in my head.  I started giggling as I remembered how, for the longest time, I heard the lyrics as:

Pajamas.  Pajamas.
I want pajamas with you.
Pajamas, pajamas, pajamas, pajamas.
Hope you like pajamas, too.

That's AWESOME! I'm going to have to remember that. I like the song better that way. :D

In the song "Birdhouse in Your Soul" by They Might Be Giants, there's a line that sounded like...

"Like the laundry, it's infinite, it never rests."

The line is actually...

"Like the Longines Symphonette, it never rests."

To me, the "wrong" line makes more sense, because laundry IS infinite. Even when we're done, there's more to do.

The classic one would 'Bad Moon Rising' by Creedence Clearwater Revival.

The lyrics say 'There's a bad moon on the rise".

But it sounds like they say "There a bathroom on right".

Also Manfred Man-blinded by the light

The lyrics say "Blinded by the light, wrapped up like a deuce in the middle of the night another runner in the night"

But it sounds like they say "Blinded by the light, wrapped up like a touche in the middle of the night another roamer in the night"

I always hear that one as "wrapped up like a douche". :icon_weee:

I kind of do too.  ;D  Though the song starts to become a bit bizarre when we get to "Pajamas for the Lord".

I always had trouble hearing, "You are my centerpiece," coming out as, "You are my centipede."

My sister asked me one day what Dead or Alive meant when they sang "you spin me right round baby right round like a recipe"...Mmmm.

One of my friends at school told me that their mum was horrified with the Billy Ocean song "when the going gets tough" as she thought he was singing "why don't you go and get stuffed"
