Excerpt: When reports of Somma's cross-dressing became front-page news
and ultimately led to his resignation, more than 200 members of the
bankruptcy bar signed a letter urging the 1st Circuit to reinstate the
highly respected judge. That effort was unsuccessful; Somma's
resignation went into effect without further explanation on May 30.

"My sense is that they're probably reacting to the bar's effort to
have them reconsider Judge Somma's resignation," Glosband said. "Maybe
they think, as a consequence, that the bankruptcy bar isn't prepared
to be objective about the [judicial selection] process. Maybe they are
even feeling a little vindictive about that, because they felt that
they were put on the spot. I think it's a bit of a backlash. "
