UK: Trans 10-year-old Found Hanging
Saturday, February 16 2008 @ 08:28 PM CST (http://news.infoshop.org/article.php?story=20080216202803591)
A boy of 10 has been found hanged at his South Yorkshire home after telling his mum he wanted to be a girl. Cameron McWilliams had already asked for permission to wear make-up, and been teased after he was found wearing his half-sister's knickers.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note: Cameron has been added to The 2008 Transgender Day of Remberance (http://www.dolari.org/dor/2008/2008names.htm) just one of six for the first two months of 2008. It is also unusual as the TDOR has in the past only listed "hate-crime" related deaths.
Correction: I was mistaken when i posted that information. Kate Alice

Yeah. I hope wherever she is now, she's at peace.
*sigh* That's not a million miles away from where I live. Not exactly the most... open-minded and understanding part of the world. :(
heartbreaking :'(
Such a tragic story. :'(
That's horrible :'(
I'm from the next county, it makes you think :(
That is so horrible. May she rest in peace.
I'm keeping my mouth shut

No need for that, Sheila. It's heartbreaking. Speak your mind.
Poor little mite.
i had a little cry reading this,
poor poor little sweetheart i do hope angels are looking after her.
If there were angels in the first place, she would not have died in this way.

My site is not actually the "official" site. That one is http://www.gender.org/remember/day . I simply keep my own list of names and events to supplement the official DOR's list alongside the Webcomic vigils. The official DOR site does Hate Crimes related deaths but, personally, I believe suicides should be added as many happen because of pressure by society - equally tragic in my eyes.
Yes, but the remberence day is for people who died at the hands of others.
Thats terrible...

If that's what you believe, then that's absolutely fine. That's why the DOR has their list of names.
But for me...this is a terrible thing that's happened. Cameron is someone I put on my own list, because I feel that name should be there. This isn't a competition, and I'm not trying to replace the DOR, supplant them or get them to change their rules. Instead I'm working along side them, helping get the word out in my own way. Doing what I can how I feel is necessary.
If Cameron doesn't belong on your list, that's totally okay. Make your own list and decide who you want on there. Just please DO something. Every little bit helps, no matter how we decide to express it.

My apology's for the misinformation, I did in fact mistake your site to be an official listing.
Certainly Cameron makes it onto my personal list for remembrance. I for one very much appreciate your work and your web presence. It is very difficult to put into words just how touching the DOR Webcomics project (http://www.dolari.net/dor/index.htm) is, Thank You very much!
I would also like to extend my appreciation and Thank Yous to Gwendolyn Ann Smith, and the group of hardworking folks who help her research and confirm the persons that, regretably must be added to the DOR. I know that these folks go the extra mile to make sure there are no mistakes.
Kind Regards
Kate Alice

I really appreciate it. I'm just trying to do my part, and I'm a firm believer that every little bit helps.
