Title: new here with questions
Post by: Hal on July 23, 2008, 03:04:29 PM
Hi,

I'm kind of new to transitioning (with hormones & surgery, that is), and this sounds like a good site to gather some info. I'm doing therapy right now and have a question concerning waiting lists for surgeries. Can anyone give me any pointers on if there are usually waiting lists for top/bottom surgeries and if so how long (when can/should one sign up)? Or does it depend on the particular surgeon & procedure? To narrow things down a bit I live in the Philadelphia area so looking for something close by and top-surgery would be first in line...

Any tips?

Thanks Hal

Welcome to Susan's, Hal, I'm sure the guys will be along shortly, they are always most welcome to have another guy join the crew.

You might want to check into Dr. Sherman Leis (Philly) perhaps or Christine McGinn (Doylestown.)

Enjoy your stay here, hugs,

Nichole

Hey Hal, I'm fairly new here myself. I don't have a GID therapist yet, just a regular therapist, so I'm nowhere near surgery. Sorry I can't help with what you need, just wanted to let you know we're not ignoring you. It may just be that a lot of us haven't started surgery yet so we don't know.

Where are the guys who've had surgery already?? Help a bro out

The one doc I consulted about top surgery has openings as early as Aug & Oct, and beyond.  Once you get your letters it shouldn't take too long.  I'm planning on winter because that's when I can get time off work.

Bottom surgery - no idea.

Hysto - as soon as my gyno can schedule it, but I'm older and have medical reasons for it

I have medical reasons too, even though I'm younger. Once I start with my GID therapist, I'm going to make sure people know my reason. I'm sickle cell anemic, and menstruation is quite painful for me once a month, to the point that the cramps and actual menstruation cycle will send me into a sickle cell crisis. Once a month. Thankfully I'm now on medication, but I will try to use it as my point to get a hysto :)

I don't have a reason for any of the surgeries. My dad was trying to help, actually. He asked if I had breast cancer history in the family. Lol. Anything like that. Well, my mom THINKS she has a tipped uterus. If I had a tipped uterus, it might be a reason...

Hey, thanks a lot for your responses. Since then, I've found out the waiting list should be about 6 months or so, which is pretty good, gives you some time to get time off and prepare financially and all that.

Thanks again, Hal

I'm gonna post another topic about hysto/oopho

Brownstein did my top surgery and could've got me in within 2 months. I waited 3 months because I needed time to organize time off work. The waiting lists will vary doctor to doctor and time to time.
