Whether you're a queer refugee seeking a safe place to be who you are,
or a same-sex couple that's happy to finally find a country where you
and your partner have some basic civil rights, one thing's for sure:
You're going to have to get personal.
For queer refugees, the high level of personal disclosure can be a
challenge. When you've been persecuted your whole life because of your
sexuality, it can be a monumental, even impossible, task to come
face-to-face with a government officer and explain your situation
honestly.
How did you post that in the year 2025? :o
Natasha is a woman of the future. How's the weather in 2025, Natasha? Any stock tips?
Canada has been welcoming of gay and lesbian refugees for a long time. I used to practice refugee law in 1997 and being persecuted on the grounds of sexual orientation was available then. Gender identity would have fit the criteria as well. I never had a ->-bleeped-<-e client, but I had no trouble getting genuine gay and lesbian refugees their refugee status.
