Title: T and Muscle Growth
Post by: Jamie-o on August 02, 2008, 03:52:46 AM
I've noticed that when listing the effects of T, nobody mentions increased strength.  How long before you started to notice an increase of strength/muscle?  And do you automatically get stronger, or does the T just make your workouts more effective?  (Obviously, if you work out, you will get stronger than if you don't, but I mean, will you get stronger than you were before, even if you don't work out?)

Testosterone makes muscle growth in males faster than that of females. So, you're going to be stronger if your muscles are getting stronger.

So generally, muscle growth usually means you're going to be stronger whether you're male or female.

I don't know. But it certainly increases your potential to be strong. I was told by 2 FtMs yesterday that T accelerates your strength gain (at first, anyway). But honestly, if you sit around and do nothing, you won't see much improvement.

Yep, pretty well, Elwood has it nailed. Your muscles will increase in strength if you do stuff with them, but if you don't, all you have is potential.

It may depend on the person... a few months after I started people at work asked me if I was on steriods! I rarely worked out. I was no where near cut but I was bigger than I am now.

I think it does as I haven't yet done much at all weight lifting! And I am certainly stronger now than what I was... I guess to get some definition I need to start pumping some iron...

So, how long was it before you started noticing a change in strength?

That could have been more liquid strength then T.  ;)

Testosterone creates an anabolic environment that makes it so that you're body "could" create more muscle. It's like gas in a gas tank, if you don't burn it, it'll just sit around waiting. You've got to utilize your resources!

I live and work on a farm, I noticed not even a month after I started T that my day to day work was much easier. That's also how I keep in shape and I noticed major muscle growth, while Pre-t I was hovering steadily at twig arms regardless of my lifting 50 pound bags of feed and throwing hay bales, after I started t my arms thickened like crazy along with my shoulders and now have noticeable muscle definition.

T won't build muscle on its own...only hard workouts with increasing weight will do that combined with the correct diet

I've had mono since I started T and haven't been able to work out at all because of it. Before I started T, I could only do like.....eh, 8 pushups max. Today I dropped down and popped about 20 out no sweat. All I've been doing is sleeping, maybe running once a week if I felt okay. It's been 7 weeks on T
