Title: Shaving
Post by: Tracy on August 04, 2008, 08:45:52 PM
Hi all!

I recently did a semi-purge for about 6 weeks. I didn't throw my things away, but put them all in a box (a very large box!) and stuffed it in the closet (kinda like me). I didn't shave my face or body, and I have to say, it was horrendous.

I have been shaving most of my life, and those I have been with have mostly accepted it, though not necessarily liked it. There isn't much hair to begin with, so it doesn't drastically change the appearance, but is definitely noticeable when gone.

I felt as though I was a stranger to myself; like a caveman! Though I can appreciate hair on a man, I can't stand it on me. There's no way to describe how I felt for those weeks watching the hairs grow out.

I will never do it again. I don't care what people may say. I gotta be me.

BTW: In the past, I had some electrolysis, but didn't come close to completing it before moving to an area where I dare not attempt it (small town).

We gotta be us. One can only hope others accept that as we probably accept them for their personal uniqueness.

Just wanted to write that, and hope it's ok. (also: great site!)

Tracy,

Most of male body builders and cyclers shave their legs. You may start body building or cycling to justify your shaving at least for a while to town people.

Thanks Barbie

I have been asked in the past about it, and explained it just that way. I was a cyclist in training! I truly did say that, and was looked at skeptically, but what the heck.

Haha people asked me if I was a swimmer (because I have a swimmer's build) I used to say I was...then if they wanted to go swimming Id come up with an excuse (I CANT EVEN SWIM!).

Yes, I'm another CD who's done "quasi-purges" by packing everything up. My usual trick is to put the boxes in a storage locker, so I can get them back, but not on the spur of the moment.

As for what how to respond to people who ask why you're hairless, I'm tempted to say that anyone who'd ask is, by definition, a rude ass, and you don't owe them anything more than a withering look coupled with "It's none of your business." Or if you really want to stick it to your questioner, say that it's from your chemotherapy.

Of course, that last line can get you in BIG trouble, so use it with care!

If you want a less obnoxious response, point out that most TV and movie actors are hairless. The next time you see a guy take off his shirt on TV, check out his chest hair. Odds are, he has none. Ditto with rock stars.

Personally, though, I don't normally shave my body. I'm hairy. I mean, really hairy. Ten years ago, for medical reasons, I had to shave from the neck down. That had its advantages -- I dried off a lot faster after a shower! -- and every time I got undressed, I was astonished by how different I looked. But ultimately, I stopped shaving. It was just too hard to do it, and the stubble itched like crazy!

These days, I go for the covered-up look: opaque tights, long sleeves, and high necks. Or if I want to wear something with straps, I wear a thin long-sleeved turtleneck leotard under it.

I've shaved my legs for 15 years now, solid, never had anyone ask about them at all, and I wear shorts all the time - its cali.

I am also unfortunatley really hairy so I dont shave all the time, sometimes I do, but sometimes Ill go a few months without just because it can be quite a bother. I had a beard in middleschool and chest/back hair in highschool.

Swimmers shave their bodies too so that's another choice if you need one!

who cares if you shave your legs?

Many guys do it these days and I know myself & my friends wouldn't think twice about a guy who shaves their legs
