Title: Style
Post by: ConfusedMichelle on August 07, 2008, 01:49:10 PM
So, on Nate's inseam post he mentioned his style.  I was going to reply, "Yeah, my style is pretty much preppiest gay guy ever" and post a picture.  Then I decided that I want to see your styles.  So, take a picture of your style and post.

(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi121.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo235%2Fleerebelmichelle%2FPhoto31.jpg&hash=413173e3fd50bc170212029d6f0324265ea3b837)

There's mine.  Not going to lie, my hair is NOT fixed so I refused to have my hair in the picture lol plus my laptop cam couldn't fit it all in.

Maybe this post will completely flop but I think it would be cool to see our diversity and bounce ideas off one another.

the easiest form I usually use is to put my picture online on imageshack or photobucket then put the link here between two brackets [img http link[/img] and it shows up like it did for Brady.

this is an awesome thread though Brady. I'm gonna post my style in some of the new clothes I'm saving for school that I've got so far, but later when I come back. I'm heading out right now

I use Photobucket.  Once you upload a photo, there are like 4 dif types of codes you can copy. I do the [IMG] code, copy and paste it on here and it pops up.

Can't wait Nate...ha that rhymed.

By the way, I like how my picture shows how incredibly long my fingers are. lol isn't that ridiculous...

I'm down with the Jet look myself.  I'm not thin enough to wear it anymore, but back in the 80s, when it was re-invented, I did dig it while watching the New Wave bands in the small clubs.

Yeah, I just threw on some clothes this morning.  I'm not wearing a binder in that pic either, even though I usually wear one.  Luckily I don't have much of breasts though.

We're not camera people, but I look too femmy right now anyway. Maybe next year.

I used to have a funny picture of myself dressed as a Hare Krishna. I shaved my head and went to work that way. Then I figured I might as well enter the costume contest if I was going to dress up.

All that week, people kept telling me, "I can't believe you shaved your head just to win a costume contest."

Uh, no, guys, I wanted to shave my head, and I was looking for a good excuse that y'all would understand and not hassle me about.

You should have seen one of the warehouse guys. He came in drag and was way cute. I would've been happy to see him like that every day...nice legs, but he really should have shaved them.

Love that style, Jet! Awesome! I probably wouldn't wear that for everyday, maybe for a casual occasion, though. It's rebellious, but classy.  :)

I usually wear a Hurley shirt, black or blue jeans, and black & white checkered Vans. Kinda skater/rocker style. I'd upload a pic, but I'm embarrassed. I'd like to go shopping at Buckle in the mall sometime, but I don't think I'll get around to it anytime soon. It's a skater/rocker style shop, mostly for guys, but they have some girl's stuff too.

Nice diversity of style there noxdraconis! It's funny, before I transitioned I always thought that guys had it so bland...pants, shirts, socks, shoes. I guess I just didn't have any male style, whatever that means.

I think the real difference in men's clothing - once you get away from the logo-wear that makes everyone into a walking billboard - is in the 3Cs as I was taught.  The Cloth, the Cut, and the Construction.

Some time ago, when the dollar was still very strong, I was in London and we went and bought suits from a proper tailor, and though it cost twice as much as an off-the-rack suit, its like five times better.  The way it fits, the way it moves, the way it wears - I still use it when I have to (and you have to pay me to do it) wear a suit.

Thank you, Sarah, I am touched.  Usually I wear the sweater and button up (though if it is hot out, the sweater stays in the closet), and the other two styles only on Sundays or during vacation.  Sadly all my clothes in the pictures are wrinkled because my summer style is to stay locked up at home thus requiring little in the way of clothes, just boxers and socks.

I love suits from the tailor.  It is a pity that my size fluctuates drastically so often that I have had to give up on them since it is not feasible to buy new tailored suit every 3 months.

Well a good tailor constructs in a bit of what they call 'lunch room' but its a good idea to get your weight stable.  For health alone.

When I'm at home I tend to wear skirts and hoodies, and at work its all Dickies, Carhart and the like.

And while I'm on the subject, I hate, and like HATE, cubicle clowns in work clothes.  I'm sure its the ever so prole look, but if your 'work' clothes don't show any of the markings of real work on them, you just look like a dork.  At least go out and roll around in some gravel and oil and try to make it look like you live on a farm or do construction, or work with machines.  Just my thought.

Though to your good taste, I don't see any of that going on here.

I have a couple outfits like Jet; I would dress like that full-time but my parents have been getting on my case about my clothing, so most of the time I just dress clean-cut, t-shirts, jackets, jeans, all fitted clothing. Loose tshirts/bball shorts/sweats when sitting around at home. Will take pictures sometime cause the ones I have right now show a terrible binding job heh.

I went shopping for pants today. It was a nightmare. I hate shopping for clothes because I can never find anything that fits, and if it does fit, I hate it. I persuaded my step-mom to take me to Buckle in the mall since we were near by, and I got 3 pairs of guy's jeans! I really like them. She also took me to the abercrombie & fitch store in that mall, and got 3 guy's shirts. That was a really productive shopping day for me, but my sister ended up with more than me (no shock at all, considering she finds a truckload of clothes everytime we go someplace, and then complains that she doesn't have any clothes to wear.) even though the shopping trip was supposed to be for me.

I shop in thrift stores with my mom all the time, so my step-mom decided to take me there, although I know she doesn't like second-hand stores. What annoyed me about it all was that I went to the guy's jeans, and she was like 'Oh, these are men's jeans, we should look at the women's jeans for you.' She already knew about my 'condition' so I also told her that women's jeans look horrible on me since they all tend to get smaller at the leg. She still dragged me over there to look, but I got away with only having to try on one pair of women's pants, since I found a pair of men's jeans conveniently misplaced within the women's rack, so I took them. But she was telling me the whole time 'be open-minded', and I was thinking, 'Yeah, lady, you don't see me trying to force you into men's jeans, so why are you forcing me into women's?'

Soo... ummm  maybe I am a weird guy, but I don't like wearing stripes or plaid unless it's on a kilt or part of costume lol.  Noticed a lot of men's clothing has stripes and plaid though, and defiantly the boxers lol...  hard to find some plain colored ones lol

Maybe I just have weird tastes.  Anyone else at odds with something in men's style?
Title: Re: Style

Stuff from formalwear, like bowties. I think they look ridiculous. And really wide ties. Especially worn by wide people, it just makes them look wider. And I don't get when sometimes a guy will walk into a room wearing a tux and someone else will be like, wow, great suit dude, where'd you buy it? I don't understand what they mean, and they usually don't mean how it fits because most guys have suits that fit proper. Maybe I don't have the "eye" for them, but unless you've got a different coloured vest or tie, it looks the same.

But otherwise I like men's clothing. :) Especially blazers, those are awesomely cool.

My bad for bringing back a dead thread.

I just had something that's been slightly bugging me in regards to clothing.

Elwood mentioned somewhere about his dad's height and how he fits small shirts, but has long legs.... I feel like that's me to an extent (but I like my shirts baggy so I buy medium)....and I got my pants 30x32. The 30 fits my waist perfectly, but the 32 is irritating. I don't like having my ankles show when I sit down in jeans :( is it going to be harder for me to find 30x34??
Title: Re: Style

I've never seen a 30x34, you'd probably have to go to a Big+Tall/similar store or special order it. I've seen a couple 31x34 though, so maybe that would work?

I see 30X34's all the time, I don't see it being an issue, though it may be harder to find them in certain styles of pants that only make 'so wide X so tall' without it being special ordered.

I'm a 31X32 anything bigger falls down without a belt, anything smaller is too tight and uncomfortable, and anything shorter than a 32 and I have the same problem as you with my ankles showing.

My dad is 5'11", but he is quite thin. He weighs... 150 something? 170 something? He's a lean guy. But not anorexic or anything. His legs are quite long in proportion to his body (mine to; it makes me look taller in photos if I'm not standing with other people, lol). He is too thin for the pants that are the right length for him a lot of the time.

I have the same problem as my dad. Boy's 16s are long enough, but too big. Boy's 14s are sometimes too short, but fit my butt.

It's kind of a hassle for pants. I just tend to look at different brands. There's usually at least one kind that fits. Then I get several of the same brand. The usually come in different textures/colors/styles.

For instance, I fit the boy's 16s in VANS because they were "emo boy" pants. They fit me normally, though.

Yeh is kind of annoying.  I also admit I never knew what the second number was for LOL.   I though it was 40 through 44 or something like that.  Haven't had to many problems finding shorts in mens but don't know about pants since always wore masculine or adrogenous looking female pants in past.

Most problem have had is if they fit at the hips they tend to be loose around the waist.  I have a weird shaped stomach anyways.  shrugs.  and sometimes the crotch is a little snug with the packer.
Title: Re: Style

I'm considering buying womens' pants in good-looking styles instead of men's, because I'm afraid I'll find nothing that fits me.. I'm 5'2 and a half, 109 pounds, and there aren't a lot of places that sell pants that fit small guys.

Shirts won't be a problem, because I can pick up a small. Underwear too. But pants are more complicated. And I am going to continue to buy sneakers in female's, because they fit me and they come in cooler colors.

I just want stuff that fits me well, because I've always been so weird about the way clothes feel on my body. I don't care what department it comes from if nobody else knows the difference.

They're all complaining that the pants that fit their waists are too short in the leg. Not much a tailor can do there cheaply.

Lol I only asked cause I couldn't find pants with long lengths at the store without having to go wider around the waist. 30x32 was the biggest I could find in terms of inseam, after that there was 32x32 and 32x 34 and I don't want it baggy around my waist.
Plus your suggestion could get expensive in the long run. Get each and every single pair of pants (if I can find them my waist size, and slightly longer in inseam) tailored each and every single time for the rest of my life. Yes, that would add up.

Second number? in 30x32? The 30 is the waist, the 32 is the inseam, crotch to ankle.

I think there are two reasons the heads are omitted.

1. To keep someone's identity secret incase someone they know comes upon this site (obviously not those of us who have head shots as our avatars)

2. Because it is hard to get a good close-up picture of both your head and body with a webcam.

When I saw the word "style," I just had to post this pic. I worked at a summer camp for disabled kids this summer, and we had a costume closet and dressed up a lot. This is me (left) and one of the kids (right) as clowns. (Hey, I just realized I've never posted a picture of myself. Well, hello, world!)

Alright

So I'm done shopping for the most part. Here's the final product of what I've labeled my style.

I was using my parents camera before to take the pictures, mine has a close zoom so I can't do self-pictures, so I made a video instead.
Sorry about the dim lighting :)

I'm wearing the same pants as before in the first shot (see this (https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,40625.msg264770.html#msg264770) for a better shot of my pinstripe pants), then jeans in the rest.

Are you into girls? because no self--respecting woman would appreciate that shirt.

It's funny cause it is true  ;D ;)

My grandfather told me before I got married that "It is the worst day in your life" - which is probably was for a gay man used to life on ship with a bunch of other young "beautiful boys".

LOL.  well I've known many who feel the same way.  Not that they don''t love their wifes/partners, but as soon as got married they lost some of the freedoms they had when they wasn't married lol

I personally find it a somewhat offensive joke, but it's also funny to me... I have mixed feelings about it.

Button down fo sheez :) I like shirts like that best.

How much was it? I like doing price comparisons. I have 3 button downs from Target at 24.99 each....And I think Marshall's was.....17.99 maybe
Title: Re: Style
Post by: Osiris on September 11, 2008, 01:40:35 PM
Like 12 bucks, plus I got one for my bro for 5 bucks. I don't usually spend more than 16 on button downs.

I rock sales like nobody's business. This is what happens when you're a slave to fashion and a penny pincher.

F*** I need to get to JCP.

Though I will admit I am a tightwad with cash too, I just needed those shirts STAT at the time so I bought them from the first store I found them at. Poop...

Posted on: September 11, 2008, 02:52:11 PM
Actually I waited til back to school sale at JCP and redid my whole closet for 200 - 400 ish somewhere between there....For all my men's clothing. I loved it :)

JCPenny, Wal-Mart, any store with a discount rack. For blazers go to the Goodwill, trust me they have top quality stuff for less than 10 bucks. Ties, you can get some really good looking ones at the Goodwill too, or Wal-Mart, though you can't beat goodwill's prices at a tie for a dollar. Slacks I stick with Wal-Mart, and if I wanna look emo Hottopic. lol
