Well, it's too hot by far to work, or do much of anything, and my overheated mind went here.
If there are compelling reasons for more options let's add 'em.

Your vote is changeable of course.

How about just married.
That's me. So I haven't voted.
Don't get me wrong I do love my wife.
But I'd be alot happier if my wife would accept me for who I really am.

This is ideally, not reality-limited. That said, more options, EG: "I haven't the first clue about a first clue"?

Okay JanĀ  :).
I pick happily married. We are not the same but not opposites either. I think we complement each other.

My ideal mate?  Well (in case she ever sees this thread) - My ideal mate would be exactly like the girl I married 19 years ago !

But really, I don't think anyone in any relationship would have any trouble (if they're honest) thinking of a few improvements that could be made.  There are always some details of the spouse's character that have the ability to drive the other half half out of their minds.  Pet peeves and such:

- Will ya PUHLEEZE squeeze the damn toothpaste tube from tha bottom ! ! ! !
- Do ya HAFTA dip that knife into the jelly without wiping off the buttah fuhst!?!?!?!??
;D
That said, an ideal mate for me is a person that, no matter their other traits, is comfortable with and able to change. Change their beliefs, attitudes and behaviors in light of changing circumstances and/or knowledge but with a continuing commitment to the relationship as a whole.

Not a small order, WHAT?

Good topic, Jan.
I chose the second one. Opposites attract. There isn't enough room on the planet for more than one of me, let alone my apartment. :D
For all of you ladies out there, these are my criteria for the ideal mate:

Must be a good cook.
Must be adept at keeping house.
Must be able to tolerate cats.
Must be a good listener.
Must appreciate my poetry.
Must be a lady.
Must be warm and giving.

Lovely face and figure - a plus

This is a really good question.  For me I voted for someone who balances me...

Wow, that's a shock?  Steph you've been married for 33 years, what gives?  All very true, but the relationship has really changed.  It was unavoidable, but I think that we have a solution that meets our needs.  I don't thing that either one of us are actively looking for a soul mate, so to speak, but we have both agreed the should opportunity knock...

Steph

P.S.  We are still together and will be for a long time :)

"I don't see things this way."
I am prolly an odd one but if I don't FEEL you then, *shrug*. An if I do, then nothing else matters :P

I said the one that ballances/oposes me.....
My ex fience and I were so much alike it frightened people.... we had that silent comunications (untill I got depressed) that same thing same time same way thing happening constantly..... we were more like twins....

If she liked something it was a given that Id like it and vice versa.... (we got eachother addicted to many things we didnt even know existed before meeting)

Only real <probably the only non physical> diffrence <up untill the depression and even she got that way which was a major factor in the break up> was that she was a tomboy trying to act like a girly girl....... and Im a girly girl who had to act like a boy.... *shrugs*  go figure

Id either want that kind of relationship back.....

Or probably better would be someone that could ballance me instead of instead of going along with what ever I was doing....

Nero. Dude. Some free marketing advice: if you're going to mention the poetry as a deal-killer, you need to post some up in here some place. As fair warning or some thing.  8)

Okay, maybe when I get to know you guys better. You know, when I feel more comfortable.

I choose the one that balances/opposes me also.  I don't mind if I find someone who shares the same interests I have, but I still do not want someone who is entirely like me.  So far I have not found this person yet.  My ex girlfriend and I were too much alike and we had many communication problems which is why our relationship did not last.  Course when she lied and cheated on me, I saw the writing on the wall and knew right away we were not meant for each other.

No clue, but like art, I'll know it when I see it.

My dating pool is limited enough without me deciding who she is before I meet her.

Some criteria would be, though:
Intelligent
Sense of Humour
Independent (ie: doesn't have to cling to me all the time, can spend time apart as well as together)
Employed (practiced family law too long to get into that particular trap, plus it helps in the independent part)

A nice set of....oops, was that my outside voice?

She is my heart and my soul.
Goddess! I love her so.

I can maintain a house with just myself in it, but add anybody else and their messes tend not to get cleaned up very easily.

No your not, because I didn't have any hidden meaning in that.  It just means I have a busy life right now and I'm not at home much and usually just clean up after myself as I go along.  Nothing more was meant by that.

My ideal mate would be different from me.  I don't even like myself, why would I be with someone just like me?  Plus I am way too depressed, I need someone to balance me out there.
