Title: Songs that move or jar feelings at some point
Post by: findingreason on August 09, 2008, 10:26:43 PM
I know there is a theme song thread, but how about the songs that jar you inside? Like those deep feelings I know we all carry.

Here's a couple for me:

The Gift - Seether

Hold me now I need to feel relief
Like I never wanted anything
I suppose I'll let this go and find a reason I'll hold on to
I'm so ashamed of defeat
And I'm out of reason to believe in me
I'm out of trying to get by

I'm so afraid of the gift you give me
I don't belong here and I'm not well
I'm so ashamed of the path I'm living on
I'm right on the wrong side of it all

I can't face myself when I wake up
And look inside a mirror
I'm so ashamed of that thing
I suppose I'll let it go
'Til I have something more to say for me
I'm so afraid of defeat
And I'm out of reason to believe in me
I'm out of trying to defy

I'm so afraid of the gift you give me
I don't belong here and I'm not well
I'm so ashamed of the path I'm living on
I'm right on the wrong side of it all

Hold me now I need to feel complete
Like I matter to the one i need

I'm so afraid of the gift you give me
I don't belong here and I'm not well
I'm so ashamed of the path I'm living on
I'm right on the wrong side of it all

Now I'm ashamed of this
I am so ashamed of this
Now I'm so ashamed of me
I am so ashamed of me...

Nobody's Home - Avril Lavigne

Well I couldn't tell you why she felt that way,
She felt it everyday.
And I couldn't help her,
I just watched her make the same mistakes again.

What's wrong, whats wrong now?
Too many, too many problems.
Don't know where she belongs, where she belongs.
She wants to go home, but nobody's home.
That's where she lies, broken inside.
With no place to go, no place to go, to dry her eyes.
Broken inside.

Open your eyes and look outside, find the reasons why.
You've been rejected, and now you can't find what you've left behind.
Be strong, be strong now.
Too many, too many problems.
Don't know where she belongs, where she belongs.
She wants to go home, but nobody's home.
That's where she lies, broken inside.
With no place to go, no place to go, to dry her eyes.
Broken inside.

Her feelings she hides.
Her dreams she can't find.
She's losing her mind.
She's fallen behind.
She can't find her place.
She's losing her faith.
She's falling from grace.
She's all over the place!
Yeah!! (yeah)

She wants to go home, but nobody's home.
That's where she lies, broken inside.
With no place to go, no place to go, to dry her eyes.
Broken inside.

She's lost inside, lost inside.oh oh
She's lost inside, lost inside.oh oh
Ohhh...

Moving Forward - Hoobastank

At least I'm moving forward.
At least I'm moving forward.
At least I'm moving forward.
At least I'm moving forward...

I stand before, a road that will lead,
Into the unknown - at least unknown to me.
I want to go, but I'm paralyzed with fear.
Fear of a choice, where the outcome isn't clear.

Nooo, but still I gooo.

And I take the first step of a million more.
And I'll make mistakes I've never made before.
But at least I'm moving forward, at least I'm moving forward.
At least I'm moving forward...

I wonder if the journey will be,
Short as I hope, or much longer than it seems.
But either way, I've made up my mind.
I'm through feeling scared, I'm leaving that behind.

Sooo, Now it's time to gooo.

And I take, the first step of a million more.
And I'll make mistakes I've never made before.
But at least I'm moving forward, at least I'm moving forward.
At least I'm moving forward...

And in while I'll be singing,

Na, nana nana

And I take, the first step of a million more.
And I'll make mistakes I've never made before.
But at least I'm moving forward, at least I'm moving forward.
At least I'm moving forward, at least I'm moving forward.

And I take, the first step of a million more!
And I'll make mistakes I've never made before!
But at least I'm moving forward, at least I'm moving forward.
At least I'm moving forward, at least I'm moving forward!

Mo-ving, for-ward.
Mo-ving, for-ward.
Mo-ving, for-ward.
Mo-ving, for-ward...

Na, nana nana

The Sound of Musik, just hits that joy center and makes you want to get up and move.

Sei es rock, punk, heavy metal, politics, or classical
It's all to musik to me

Hey, das waren zeiten when hard rock was hard rock
Musik was as tough as a nail
Und unsere jungs, die waren nicht lazy they got out and made
It crazy but no one left to tell the tale
Der bube fragt den könig
Hey babe do you wanna dance?
Sie machen history dann sie sind scharf wie nie
The first pre-elected rock n roll band

The sound of musik
Do the bang-bang-boogie, say up jump the boogie
Do the rhythm on the boogie the beat
Do the bang-bang-boogie, say up jump the boogie
Do the rhythm on the boogie the beat
Do the hip do the hop do the oh-oh-bebop do the freestyle
Rock'n and we never gonna stop
Herr president, wir kennen eine sprache
Und diese sprache heißt musik

The sound of musik
Can you hear the band playing, can you feel the bodies swaying
And if you feel the groove you better start to move
Step in time to the rhythm and move your feet to the beat
Hey everybody give musik a chance and do the universal dance

The sound of musik
Hear the James Brown song, hear the church choir sing
It's the people's voice they're gonna bring up that bell and ring
The vienna lipizzaner, they're doing the rhythm and blues
It's the jailhouse-rock, it's steppin on my blue suede shoes

The sound of musik
It's Pavarotti, he's the biggest Bobby Dylan fan
Sie machen alle musik for boys, girls and big tall man
It's Otis Redding, he's sitting on the dock of the bay
Listen to the band, listen to the big-band, to the bang-bang
Listen to the bang-bang, blow horn

Hey - listen to the band
Listen to the band
Hey - listen to the band
Listen to the band
I want you listen to the band
Hey - listen to the band

The sound of musik
It's Lennon-Mccartney, Cole Porter too
They're dancin with my babe, babe - ba - ba - ba - babe - blue
Hey daddy - don't you bother me - it's gonna be my
Rock and roll day - give the children what they want
Hear the universal choir pray

Hear the James Brown song, hear the church choir sing
It's the people's voice they're gonna bring up that bell and ring
It's Otis Redding, he's sitting on the dock of the bay
Give the children what they want, hear the children do the boogie
Do the bang-bang, do the boogie-bang
Hu-la-la-hu-la-la-e
E-oh

Well the only thing I have to say to that is:

"Wheel in the sky keeps on turnin'
I don't know where I'll be tomorrow
Wheel in the sky keeps on turnin'"

:P ;D ;) >:D

This song always makes my chest feel funny and my eyes well up. Can't sing along to it or my voice would crack.

"Why I Don't Believe In God" by Everclear

I heard the truth about you
And it really doesn't read at all
Like the whipping stick you raised me with
A scared woman in a private hell
Hushed voice like electric bells
Strange talk about Edgar Cayce and the long lame walk of the dark 70's
I heard the truth about you
Yeah you
Mama they woke me up
I was deep in an idiot sleep
I was just eight years old
Heard big words with a horrible sound
Why'd they have to call my school
Tell me my mother had a nervous breakdown
I wish I believed like you do
Yeah you
In the myth of a merciful god
In the myth of a heaven and hell
I hear the voices you hear sometimes
Sometimes it gets so much I feel like letting go
Sometimes it gets so goddamn hard I feel like letting it all go
Letting it all go

I ran away, went looking for you
Back to Culver City and the old neighborhood
Need to know if you were really gone
Need to know if you were gone for good
I ran through the projects at night
Hide in the dark from my friends in the light
Hide from my brother-in-law
Hide from the things he'd say
Said you weren't losing your mind
He said you just needed a rest
He said you'd be coming home soon
He said the doctors there would know what's best
Said that maybe I could go live with them for a while
I know the truth about you
I know the truth
Mama they woke me up
I was just eight years old
Sometimes it gets so hard I feel like letting it go
Letting it all go

1.  Enya - shepherd moons. There is something haunting about that song. Instrumental.

2. Natasha Bedingfield - Unwritten

I am unwritten,
Can't read my mind
I'm undefined
I'm just beginning
The pen's in my hand
Ending unplanned

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words
That you could not find
Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten, yeah

Oh, oh

I break tradition
Sometimes my tries
Are outside the lines, oh yeah yeah
We've been conditioned
To not make mistakes
But I can't live that way oh, oh

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words
That you could not find
Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
the rest still unwrittrn

(Gospel)
Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words
That you could not find
Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live you life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins

The rest is still unwritten

The rest is still unwritten

There are many others but these two came immediately to mind.

"Silent Legacy" by Melissa Etheridge

especially the lines:

They don't listen to your reasons, as original as sin
Deny all that you feel and they will bring you home again

And as you pray in your darkness for wings to set you free
You are bound to your silent legacy

Your body is alive but no one told you what you'd feel
The empty aching hours, trying to conceal
The natural progression is the coming of your age
But they cover it with shame and turn it into rage

And as you pray in your darkness for wings to set you free
You are bound to your silent legacy

You are digging for the answers until your fingers bleed
To satisfy the hunger, to satiate the need
They feed you on the guilt to keep you humble, keep you low
Some man and myth they made up a thousand years ago

And as you pray in the darkness for wings to set you free
You are bound to your silent legacy
