Title: How long does it take to pass?
Post by: Jamie-o on August 15, 2008, 06:00:28 AM
So, my therapist says he will probably give me my T letter next month, but unfortunately, due to insurance issues, I may have to put off starting transition until January or February.  My goal was to be more or less passable by September of '09, when I'll be starting back to school.  My therapist, though, has said that if I want to be sure to pass, I should give it at least a year.

I realize it varies from person to person, but I wanted to take a short survey of how long you guys were on T before you started being Sir-ed more often than Ma'am-ed.

It depends on the person to be honest. Ive been on T for 3/4 months now.. and I get recongised as male most of the time.. but there is always that one person who will mrs you!

Two guys I know passed very well at 6 months.  I cling to the hope that by Christmas, I, too, will pass very well!!!

It was about 6 months for me before I was sirred consistently. After that I still got the odd 'maam' or so for another 6 months, but my voice had changed, so I could just say 'pardon?' and they'd get all embarrassed.

it depends on what you mean as passing.  if you mean passing as male, as soon as your voice goes probably. that took me about two months?  if you mean passing as a male your age... that's a tough one.

i don't think i can ever fully pass until these lumps are gone.

nine months on T no matter what your dosage and that should be plenty of time to pass.  of course everyone is different.

I have no trouble passing so far, and im pre-T.
But down side is, i look about 13. I'm actually 16 lol.
It does really depend on the person though

I was passing 98% of the time 2 or 3 months in.  I know someone who is 2.5 yrs on T and is not passable.  There's no prediction, really.

I am pre-T and I pass as a 13/14 year old boy (even though I am 18), but then again, I still looked like I was a 13/14 year old girl when I was messing around with this wig at the costume store, so that is probably just my naturally youthful features.

I got lucky. I've been on T for only 3 months and I pass completely, at least as far as I can tell. Started passing on the phone around 1.5 months, which has caused some minor problems when dealing with some places (my name isn't changed yet). I actually was nervous when I first started not binding at all about a month ago, but I'm also lucky there with size and it hasn't affected anyone else's perception. So, as everyone has said, it really just depends.

Really?  That's the first time I've even heard of an FTM not passing after a year or so on hormones.  And I've seen a couple of dozen FTMs transition.  Did the voice not change?  Is there a gene deletion present that causes hormone insensitivity?

His voice changed somewhat, but is still in female range.  My first thought was because he's a pretty big dude (approx 300lbs).  I'm half that and passed extremely quickly, so size can't be the only figure here.  Maybe he's got resilient ovaries?  Not so sure and not something I question him on- he's justifiably a bit sensitive on the subject.

Lol, I can pass already too (Pre-T but starting soon)

The downside is I'm 28 and everyone things I am about 16, its quite embrassing out in clubs and stuff

The plus side I get into the movies cheaper  :P

That is one of the few pluses actually,
but its sodding annoying getting awwed at by mums ol'school mates.
'Aw isnt he cute! Looks just like his dad. How old is me?'
I answer sounding about 20.
'Almost 17 you patronyzing cow.'

For the word, i think the patronyzing cow bit :P lol

What? I wouldn't insult someone for treating me like a boy! For serious. People always say, "Your DAUGHTER is so CUTE!" FRACK.

We're not out to everyone's family friends yet so... >_>;; Yeah. I have to deal with grandparents and cousins saying stupid things.
